We have been serving the Metro-West are since 1982.
We specialize in family centered chiropractic health care, pediatrics, craniopathy, and long term spinal reconstructive care.

Dr. Rosen practices Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) and is a certified Craniopath and SOT instructor.  SOT is a chiropractic technique based on the removal of subluxations and chronic spinal neurophysiological imbalances that effect the overall function of the nervous system. Because of the diversity and flexibility of SOT anyone from infants to the elderly can be safely adjusted.

Greetings!

Welcome to our November 2008. We are very excited about sharing valuable information with you and your families regarding your health. The purpose of this publication is to keep you informed about new research regarding chiropractic and increase your knowledge about the benefits of chiropractic care. In this way you will be able to make more informed choices regarding your healthcare. We will also be presenting articles concerning other health care options that can play an intricate part in your overall well-being.

Six Facets of Health Care
  • Nutrition / Diet
  • Exercise
  • Proper Rest
  • Mental Attitude
  • Spiritual Practice
  • Proper Nerve Supply / Chiropractic
Over the course of the next several newsletters we will be covering each of these topics as they relate to your overall health and well-being.  The topic "Chiropractic / Proper Nerve Supply" due to its influence on the effectiveness of the other five components will remain a focal point in each issue.
Chiropractic: The Importance of Early Spinal Examination and Subluxation Detection

According to Dr. Anelkoic "Nobody benefits from chiropractic more than kids."

Many aberrant neurological patterns can be changed in children before they create lifelong compensatory patterns.  Regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms children spines should be checked for neurological and biomechanical fascilitation patterns known to chiropractors and "subluxations."

"The subluxation that all of us worry about occurred sometime between birth and the seventh year of life, and the remedy would of course be careful chiropractic care from birth through the seventh year of life."  Major Bertrand DeJarnette

"Traumatization of the suboccipital structures (upper part of the neck) inhibits functioning of the proprioceptive feedback loops.  The motor development, though preprogrammed, cannot develop normally.  These systems are fault tolerant and able to overcome considerable difficulties and restricted working conditions.  But the price for this is a reduced capacity to absorb additional stress later.  These children may show only minor symptoms in the first months of their life but later on at the age of 5 or  they suffer from headaches, postural problems or diffuse symptoms like sleep disorders, being unable to concentrate etc."  Journal of Manual Medincine, Springer-Velag 1992

Without correction, aberrant motiliy of the motion units of the spine will inevitably result in spinal degeneration.  With appropriate correction before the spinal degeneration occurs, there will be no spinal degeneration."  Dr. Jan Jirout "Studies in the Dynamics of the Spine"

"Birth related spinal cord injuries appears to be under diagnosed.  Severe injuries cause death immediately: incomplete injuries can either cause death within the neonatal period or permit survival.  In birth injuries, the upper cervical spine or the cervicothoracic junction is usually affected.  However, any level of the spinal cord can be involved, and the involvement of multiple levels is not uncommon.'"  Dickman, Rekate, sonntag, Zabramski Division of neurological Surgery, Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, AZ.

These studies emphasize the importance of having an infants spine checked for subluxations as soon as possible after birth.  Chiropractic is not just a treatment for symptoms but serves an preeminent role in preventing the onset and progression of neurologically fascilitated dis-ease processes.

Inflammation and Diet
It is a well known fact that poor dietary habits can create an acidic environment in the blood and interstitial fluids.  This leads to abnormal joint inflammation, degeneration, pain and immobility. While the digestive system (alimentary canal) must maintain a slightly acidic environment (pH 6.5-6.8) to aid in the digestion of food the interstitial tissues and blood should be slightly alkaline.

To reduce acidity in the body or to get an idea of how acidic or basic your diet is consult an acid base food chart.  These can easily be accessed on line ( http://www.naturalhealthschool.com/acid-alkaline.html).  Note that a food's acid or alkaline-forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end-products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so lemons are alkaline-forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid-forming.

You Are What You Eat

Fruit Can Keep Your Arteries Squeaky Clean

A study on juices made from apples or purple grapes showed that both the juices and the fruits themselves can help prevent clogged arteries. Researchers fed hamsters fruit and juice along with a fatty diet. The animals who were fed grape juice had the lowest risk of developing artery problems. The benefits came from the fruits' high levels of phenols, a potent antioxidant. Antioxidants in various foods are already known to be beneficial to heart health. In this case, the team wanted to see how juicing affected the phenol content, because most studies have looked at raw fruit.
The hamsters were given an amount of fruit equivalent to three apples, or three bunches of grapes for a human weighing 154 pounds (70 kg), and drank the equivalent of four glasses of juice daily.
Compared to the control group that was given water, those given fruit or fruit juice experienced several health benefits, including:
Lower cholesterol
Less oxidative stress
Less fat accumulation in their aorta
Purple grape juice was the most potent, followed by purple grapes, apple juice, and apples. Other antioxidants, such as vitamin C and carotenoids may also contribute to their overall effect.
