| Responsible Hospitality Group
Chief Greg Mullen, City of Charleston Police Department, has teamed up with several of his officers and formed the new Responsible Hospitality Group. The group has been meeting every other month and is focusing on a variety of issues that face our industry. There are representatives from retail, restaurant and hotel sectors. Members from CAHA include Bill Hall Sr., Halls Chophouse, and Gayle Karolczyk, Francis Marion Hotel.
Currently, the group is working on promotion of the taxi and pedicab stands as well as a minor increase in the number of pedicabs on the street later at night. The group would also like to find a way to assist in regulating delivery times therefore helping the flow of traffic.

We had to share this quote with you from our friend, Suzanne Moon, Vice President of Operations for Southeast Tourism Society.
What tips would you give someone just starting out in tourism?
Listen and learn from others. I would sit at Bill, Sr.'s (Bill Hardman, founder of Southeast Tourism Society) desk and listen to him talk on the telephone; I would learn more about tourism from that. Also, realize that you will have times when you have to schlep boxes, lick envelopes and work weekends. Tourism is a 24/7 job. Be kind to everyone in the industry - especially those in the minimum wage jobs. They make tourism work! |
