We appreciate the industry members that came out last month to spend time with our Charleston County Legislative Delegation! This event is always a fun one but more importantly it gives everyone an opportunity to mix and mingle without any pressure. The relationships strengthened at this event will pave the way for a new legislative session set to begin on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.

What's Up in Washington?
Federal Update - Please take note During September, Catherine Dority made 2 trips to Washington, DC, on behalf of the Association. First, she joined other tourism leaders from South Carolina for a Congressional members' reception. In attendance were Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sen. Jim DeMint, Congressman John Spratt, Congressman Henry Brown and Congressman Joe Wilson. On the second night, the SC Association of Tourism Region's hosted a reception for congressional staff. It was a great time to network and everyone was very positive.
The second trip encompassed assisting the CACVB Sales Department with the Spirit of SC reception and most importantly attending a meeting on Spousal Travel Deductions. Sen. Graham and Cong. Brown's offices organized a very important meeting involving representatives from AH & LA, US Travel Association, National Restaurant Association and the National Club Association. There was also staff present from Congressman Neil Abercrombie's (Hawaii) office and the Republican Study Committee. With the Travel Promotion Act advancing quickly, it will allow the national industry associations a chance to bring Spousal Travel Deductions to the forefront. Be on the lookout for a stong push for a grass roots campaign. We'll need letters of support from local businesses and will supply you with all the relevent information in the coming weeks.
