The Culinary Institute at TTC

I started working at the reception desk at The Woodlands in September 2008. I was looking for a job because I felt like I should have experience in the industry. I started searching hotels in the area online, and I saw that there was a part time job as the concierge at the Woodlands. I began finding out as much as I could about it, and I had actually found someone in my Catering Management class who was working there. I asked her what I should do and who I should talk to. I later applied and went in for an interview. I was nervous because I didn't have much experience, but I acted confident when I went for my interview. I was actually hired the same day.

I never realized how much was involved in this job. It is fast-paced and I have to handle many different things at once. Each day I find ways to improve and make the process go smoother. I am fairly confident that I can handle almost anything now. The thing I like most about my job is that I can interact with the guests. I think the best feeling in the world comes when you make someone smile.

2009 Legislative Wrap Up
07 fashion week How did tourism fare?

In a year where no one knew what the state budget outcome would be, tourism probably had the best outcome in the entire state.  The General Assembly appropriated $10 million for the Destination Specific Tourism Marketing fund!  This was a great victory for the industry and would not have been possible without the many leaders from Charleston that attended the Taste of South Carolina on April 22.  It was certainly a key opportunity to meet with legislators and share how important the state's investment is.  The Charleston Area CVB has continued to receive the $1 per night match and hopes to apply for over $2.5 million.

Special thanks also to our two main industry-wide spokespersons, Tom Sponseller and Buddy Jennings.  They are at the state house each day listening and helping advance our industry agenda.  Tom and Buddy stay in constant contact with our staff through out the days and are a huge asset!

So, which legislators from Charleston were instrumental and supportive of tourism?  Here is our list:
House of Representatives
Speaker Bobby Harrell (& staff)
Rep. Jenny Horne
Rep. Annette Young
Rep. Jimmy Merrill
Rep. Vida Miller
Rep. David Mack
Rep. Chip Limehouse
Rep. Wendall Gilliard
Rep. Mike Sottile
Rep. Seth Whipper
Rep. Anne P. Hutto
Rep. Robert Brown
Rep. Tim Scott
Rep. Leon Stavrinakis

Senate
President Pro Temp Glenn McConnell (& staff)
Senator Ray Cleary
Senator Paul Campbell
Senator Robert Ford
Senator Clementa Pinckney
