Hats off to our own GCHMA President, Dan Blumenstock, for being named by IHG the 2008 Best of the Best "General Manager of the Year award".  Dan was honored during a special ceremony held during the 2008 IHG Americas Investors & Leadership Conference in Los Angeles September 24-26, 2008.  An award trophy and medallion were presented in recognition of his exemplary service.  Dan was selected for exemplary and unique service to the hotels' guests, achieving outstanding financial performance and his involvement in the community.

In other recent news, Charleston was honored as the #2 destination in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler readers.  This is our highest position ranked in the 16 years the area has been named to the list.  In other local rankings, Kiawah Island was lauded as the No. 2 island in North America.  Kiawah is in good company with Vancouver and Nantucket rounding out the top three choices.

Additionally, the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island was ranked the No. 3 resort in the mainland US.  The top two spots went to Kenwood Inn & Spa in Sonoma and the Inn at Thorn Hill & Spa in Jackson, NH.

A full seven percent of the top 100 hotels in the US are located in the Charleston area.  Other honored properties include: Charleston Place Hotel, Wentworth Mansion, Market Pavilion Hotel, John Rutledge House Inn, French Quarter Inn and Planters Inn.
Holiday Happenings for your Guests

With mild temperatures and value rates, there's no better time to experience the rich history of the Charleston area than during the holiday season. Plan to celebrate with the annual "Christmas in Charleston" festival where you will be welcomed to the season of beauty, lights and magic that surrounds the entire Charleston area in November and December. Charleston offers history, culture, splendid shopping, unique tours and delicious holiday dining. This is the place where Santa has a tan.

The Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) has updated the Christmas in Charleston website, www.ChristmasinCharleston.com, packed with extensive information needed for planning a holiday trip to the Charleston area.
