SC Legislative Session Begins...
on January 8

It is anybody's guess what this session holds for our state and her citizens.  One major topic of discussion is an expected deficit of over $280 million.  What does that mean for the tourism industry?  Proving our worth - that is for sure.  In 2008, it will be more important than ever to show the return on investment for marketing dollars spent state-wide and locally.  We will need industry leaders to speak up on what a great year 2007 was and how effective the marketing campaigns put into place were.

The first event we'll be attending is on January 9 and is hosted by the SC Chamber of Commerce.  The annual Business Speaks forum and reception are always well attended by members of the General Assembly.  Thanks to Tripp Hays and Ed Riggs for volunteering to attend the event.  On January 23, Catherine Dority will be traveling with the staff of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition to deliver prints of the 2008 festival poster to members of the Charleston area delegation.  More office visits will be made during the SC Governor's Conference on Tourism & Travel taking place in Columbia during the week of February 11.  Stay tuned for more updates and calls to action!

Once again, Senator Glenn McConnell and Representative Bobby Harrell take top leadership positions in their respective chambers as the Senate Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House.
 The Year Ahead
What does 2008 hold for the travel industry?

As the eve of the New Year approaches our thoughts turn to the forces most likely to affect demand for travel services in the year ahead and, specifically, the manner in which consumers will plan, shop for, book, consume and even share commentary on travel experiences and suppliers.  Continue reading the article by clicking here.
