The Invisible Ceiling

Envy is poison.
 
It's not just that it's a low state of being and quite unbecoming.  It's poison.  It doesn't hurt the object of your envy.  It hurts you.
 
There's a great saying about what you do to yourself when you stay angry at somebody.  "It's like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."  Envy isn't that much different.  People just don't focus on it as much, because, despite its reputation as one of the seven deadly sins, it seems like a relatively harmless indulgence.  We profoundly disagree.
 
Believing that some people have too much of a good thing and resenting or criticizing them for it actually limits what's possible for you, because it reinforces the notion of scarcity.  The "psycho-logic" of it goes something like this.  If someone else has something, there's less for me.  And if I can't have it, they shouldn't have it either.  The energy of envy is all about dragging down.  We want to think exclusively about building up ... about moving up ... about inspiration and aspiration, not indignation and denigration.
 
You probably believe, at some level, that abundance flows to those who believe that it's good to enjoy an abundant life.  And yet, how often do you find yourself looking at someone who has a really nice house or car ... or who has taken a trip you can't afford or who has a really successful business or career ... and saying something kind of snide about it?  You know what we're talking about, something as mild as "Ooooh, it must be nice" or as snarky as "Wonder what he's compensating for with that car?"
 
Confession time.  This isn't something we're speaking about theoretically.  We've been there and we're not going there again.  When the deep-seated impulse to envy wells up, we choose a better thought.  We're retraining ourselves to think, "Good for them.  They got want they wanted.  Getting what you want in life is a good thing.  If they can have what they want, I can to."  Celebrate the success of others.  As long as they came by it honestly, why wouldn't you?
 
Abundance breeds more abundance.  Scarcity breeds more scarcity.  When you descend into the low state of envy and you're "vibrating" at that base emotional level, it's like jamming a giant plug into the wellspring of your abundance.

Here's how it works.  If you hold the belief that there's something wrong with someone being successful and wealthy and having all the things they want ... if that makes them somehow a bad person ... then how in the world could you ever let yourself become successful and wealthy?  How could you ever allow yourself to have all the things you want?  That would make you a bad person too.  And your subconscious mind won't let that happen.  In the language of psychology, this mismatch between our beliefs and actions creates what's called cognitive dissonance.  Using the language of attraction, we'd call it being out of alignment vibrationally.  Your intention isn't clear.  You say you want to be wealthy and successful, but you aren't open to accepting it at some level.
 
The key to attracting good things in your life is to ask for what you want, expect it to be given, and allow it to come to you.  How could you ever expect wealth and success to be yours if a part of you sees attaining wealth and success and the things that come with it as a bad thing?
 
Think we're making this up or making too much of it?  Okay, answer this question.  Is it good to be rich?
 
If you can't simply say yes, then that should tell you something.  The only caveat we would allow is that the riches have to be obtained honestly.  Otherwise, it's good to be rich ... period.  May everybody be rich in every sense of the word, including financially.  Scarcity and hardship be damned.
 
Here's the bottom line:  There's a limiting factor to how successful and rich you'll be.  It's how much you allow others to have.  So, really, how much is okay for others to have?  How does "everything they want" sound?  Because that's how much it'll be okay for you to have too, psychologically and vibrationally speaking.
 
If it's not okay for others to be abundant, don't hold your breath waiting for a flood of wealth to wash over you any time soon.  You can't see it, but every time you indulge in envy and place arbitrary limits in your own mind on what's okay for others to have, you're constructing an invisible ceiling that limits your own upward path.
 
Blow the ceiling away.  Open yourself up to the possibility of an abundant life for everyone.  It isn't that hard.
 
The secret?  Allowing.  Just allow others to live their lives as abundantly as you hope to live yours.

Leverage ... Making the Most of You
 
It's just you ... or you and your partner(s).  You're it.  You run the business, but there's only so much of you to go around and there's a seemingly unlimited amount of work to be done.  You can't do it all and still eat and sleep, so what do you do?
 
You make the most of your time and your gifts by focusing your efforts in three key areas and doing as little as possible in all other areas.  How do you determine what those three areas are?
 
By asking yourself this deceptively simple but all-important question:  What should I be spending my time on?
 
Let's drill down further:
 
Where do I get the greatest monetary and psychic returns for the hours I spend?  What actions will make my business grow?
 
What do I do best?  Where am I the star?  Where will I have the most impact?
 
What needs to be done that only I can do?
 
What jobs can be done almost as well, just as well, or better by someone else?
 
Do the math.  First, calculate how much you make an hour when you're providing service to clients or bringing in new business to expand your enterprise.  Then, figure out how much it would cost you to have someone else do your other business-related work ... or personal business ... for you.  If it costs less to have someone else do the job than it "costs" you in lost income when you do it, then find someone else to pick up the load.  And do it as soon as you have the cash flow to allow the expense.
 
It's all about leveraging your time and strengths to produce maximum results.  The concept is simple enough, but have you actually done the calculations?  Have you really thought through what you should be concentrating your attention on and what you shouldn't be doing?
 
We sat down and looked at these questions closely ourselves and came up with these three key focus areas:
  1. Implementing active marketing strategies
  2. Providing excellent service to clients
  3. Doing strategic planning

Those are the activities that'll have the most impact on our business.  Not accounting or going through email or buying supplies or licking envelopes, even though all of those things have to be done and we can't avoid all involvement.  We just seek to minimize time spent on those non-core tasks, so we have the time and energy we need to build the business, provide our clients the best quality service possible, and keep things headed in a good direction.

It's so easy to let yourself get bogged down in detailia and low priority work.  Rise above it.  Spend your time doing what makes you great and what'll have the greatest impact on your world and the lives of others.
 
The lever was a magnificent discovery.  By inserting it in the right spot, one person could move large objects that couldn't be moved otherwise.  It allowed even a small person to have a large impact.  In your business, the lever is you.  So ask yourself ... Where do I need to insert myself to create maximum impact and achieve maximum leverage?
 
As the years go by and the effects of allocating your time wisely come to have a huge impact on your level of satisfaction and your bank account, you'll be glad you did.
