Greetings!
First the Bad News: On Saturday, August 1st in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, for the first time in the history of our state, Sales Tax will be applied to the retail sale of alcohol. At the same time sales tax on non-beer taxable items will increase from 5% to 6.25% What that means to us (and you) is that our prices are going to change. Historically we have run a "no change" business. We don't try to fool you with 99 cent pricing, and we have absorbed lots of costs increases without raising our prices...but the time has come! See below for our new beer prices effective August 1st!
Now the Good News: Also on Saturday August 1st, the Marcus Family (myself, my wife Beth and our two sons, Jacob & Harrison) will be working at the Barnstable Ed Foundation's Strokes of Genius Mini Golf Course on Main Street, and we are providing some incentives noted below (including matching your entry fee & a FREE pint glass!). Hopefully this will bring out some Cape Cod Beer fans to play for a GREAT cause!

| BEER & TAXES - What does it mean to you? |
Price increases as of AUGUST 1st 2009

 According to patriot and beer maker/drinker Ben Franklin, "..in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."
Cape Cod Beer has historically done everything in our power to keep prices of retail growlers and refills low - in many cases absorbing cost increases to keep from changing our prices. A 6.25% increase on a $7 refill means we would have to absorb a 44 cent drop in revenue on every $7 refill growler sold, and 50 cents of every $8 refill.
Thus, the time has come to increase the price. For those keeping track, the last time we increased growler refill prices was in January of 2007. Show me another product that has not increased prices over the last 2 years!
Based on the new requirement to charge 6.25% tax on alcohol, growler prices will be as follows:
New Growler of Red, IPA, Summer, Porter or Blonde: $ 13
Which breaks down as:$10.35 + $.65 tax + $2 deposit
Refills of Red, IPA, Summer & Porter: $8 which is $7.53 + $.47 tax
This is a total increase of $1 per growler either new or refill for Red & IPA.
For fans of the Summer or Porter this price is not an increase.
New Growler of Harvest, Dunkel, BerryMerry and other short run/small batch** beers: $14
Which breaks down as: $11.29 + $.71 tax + $2 deposit
Refills of short run/small batch beers: $9 which is $8.47+ $.53 tax
**Old Man Winter, Cherry Porter & other specialty beers - Not yet determined.
On the BEER GEAR scene: Pint glasses, pint 4 packs and coolers will remain at their existing price with tax included. A few other items will go up, including: Tervis Tumblers, Golf Towels, CapeCodOpoly, and Wonderstone Coasters, mostly because their costs also went up along with the additional 1.25% in existing taxes.

 The Barnstable Ed Foundation has taken a vacant (and not very pretty) lot on Main Street in Hyannis (shown left) and converted it into a 9 hole mini fundraiser (shown below) 
Since Beth signed us (the family) up to work at the course on Saturday from 2:30pm to 6pm we figured we'd add some incentives to get some friends down to play! So....
If you come to play this Saturday between 2:30 and 6pm (which will cost you $5 per person) we will match that $5 with a $5 donation. So if 20 friends of Cape Cod Beer come to play - we'll donate $100..if 100 come to play - we'll donate $500. For your trouble/participation, we will offer you a FREE Cape Cod Beer Pint Glass (Actually it will be a coupon so you can pick one up at the brewery, so nothing gets broken!)

Details: Strokes of Genius is located in Hyannis on the corner of Main Street and Ocean Street, this nine hole course is colorful and creative. The over-all theme is Local Treasures, and each hole is designed by a different artist or team of artists. If you can not make it THIS SATURDAY, the course is open from 11 AM to 9 PM until August 9th, so come play a round! Admission is $5.00 per person, and all proceeds go to the BEF.

Our current plan of attack for releasing new beers over the next 6 months is as follows:
SUMMER: Summer stops being delivered to package stores the Friday before Labor day. Get it at the brewery after that while it lasts!
HARVEST: Available September 8th at the brewery and at package stores later that week. Available until approximately Halloween (10/31).
DUNKEL: Available the week of September 14th. Available until approximately Halloween (10/31) Dunkel is ONLY AVAIALBLE at the Brewery.
BLONDE: Available starting the first week of October, and at package stores later that week. We hope this will be a NEW year-round offering.
PORTER: Available at the brewery starting the first week of November, and in package stores shortly thereafter. Porter will be avaialble until April of 2010.
BERRY MERRY: Available at the brewery and in package stores the week prior to Thanksgiving until New Years Eve.
