Clutter is the #1 Cause of Disorganization
 In the time it takes to have a cup of coffee it is amazing how much clutter could be collected in you home or office. The last of this month is Clutter Awareness Week. It is the perfect time to call all "hands on deck" to collect unneeded or wanted items and free up space. In the office, set aside time for the entire staff to do nothing be review their space and edit old files, paper, and other clutter. Ideally, an entire day would be set aside. If that is not possible then shut the phones off for at least an hour if not half a day.
The same could be done at home with the whole family. Each person in their own room or assigned area. With everyone working together it will be easier than you think.
Create boxes to "recycle", "donate", and "trash" and then get the clutter out immediately. Make this an annual event during the last of March and you will be amazed how much time will be saved in the coming weeks. Then during your morning coffee pick clear out the new clutter that has shown up.

Perfect Time to Freshen Your Spices
If you love to cook you know there is nothing like fresh spices. They go stale just like all other food items and should be replaced every year.
Clutter Awareness Week is the perfect anniversary for updating your pantry and spices. I have found a wonderful spice supplier, The Spice House in Chicago.  Not only do they have the most wonderfully fresh spices they have these beautiful containers. The containers are available for separate purchase, but if you order spices they come in these containers for not much difference in price from what is in the grocery. These jars are available in 4 ounce, 8 ounce, and 16 ounce jars. Spices are also available by the bag once you have the jars. If you order the spices in the jar I recommend you ask for the labels to be placed on top of the jars. This way you can easily see the name of the spice if you use "stadium seating".

Handy Substitutions and Equivalent Measurement
What Would You Do For
3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup
16 tablespoons = 1 cup
2 tablespoons (liquid) = 1 ounce
2 cups = 1 pint (16 fluid ounces)
4 cups + 1 quart
4 quarts = 1 gallon
1 cup self-rising flour = 1 cup all-purpose flour plus 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder = 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar plus 1/4 teaspoon soda
1 tablespoon cornstarch = 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk = 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice plus sweet milk to equal 1 cup
1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate = 3 tablespoons cocoa plus 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 tablespoon fresh herbs = 1 teaspoon dried herbs or 1/4 teaspoon powdered herbs
1/4 cup chopped parsley = 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dry mustard = tablespoon prepared mustard
1 pound fresh mushrooms = 6 ounces canned mushrooms |
