Getting organized is process, always happening. It is never a completed event. Being organized is a journey we take everyday. No matter what we do, life is coming at us continually affecting what was organized the day before. The mail arrives, schedules change, groceries are purchased and we have to make room for the "new" in our lives.
The true test of an organized life is not measured by the space we have, or the stuff in the space, but the ability to stay organized depends on the decisions we make. If we do not release the past our future - and present - will become cluttered and unmanageable.
Make the working areas of the home a place where you want to spend time. If your home office isn't a comfortable and beautiful place, papers and clutter will end up in other areas such as kitchen countertops, the dining room table, even the bedroom. Make quick decisions. If the mail is not reviewed and sorted each day, quickly it's a pile you will want to avoid. It only takes a minute to recycle the junk mail and place the mail that needs attention in a file for review later.
Follow these simple S.T.E.P.S. to organize your home, office and life:
· Sort - go through one area and sort "like with like" during an initial review.
· Think - about what is not longer used, wanted or loved.
· Edit - donate unwanted items, recycle or even trash broken possessions not longer useful.
· Process - by placing things where they are used. Make the best use of your space. Place items in containers that make your storage reflect your style.
· Sustain - the work you have achieved by periodically reviewing rooms, closets, even calendars for things to be removed to keep your life on a clutter-free road.
