Welcome to this month's issue! The Technology Advisor provides technology advice, strategy, tips and trends to help you manage and grow your business!

iPad iTunes Virus
It didn't take long! Apple released the iPad to stores just a few weeks ago, and there's already a new virus that's targeting iPad owners. Disguised as an iTunes update that offers new features, better performance, and enhanced security, the download is actually a malicious piece of malware designed to collect your personal information, such as log-in passwords for your email accounts.

Always stay vigilant when downloading any updates. The big trend in the past year or so is viruses/malware threats that "look like the real thing". The folks who write the code are getting very sophisticated with graphics so please always stay alert before downloading anything. Keep in mind that even if you have up to date anti-virus/anti-malware protection, the threats are designed to morph slightly to stay ahead of even the most up-to-date virus definitions.

How BlackBerry plans to stay on top
An interesting recent article in Fortune looks at trends in smart phones for business users. The BlackBerry remains the workhorse for business email on the go, but increasingly, business users are looking for "apps" and the iPhone is rapidly gaining popularity among business users. Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of the BlackBerry, reported revenue growth of 35% last year and analysts are projecting 29% growth for this year - very impressive. BlackBerry is still the number one smart phone, but with only a fraction of the apps available on the iPhone, RIM is looking at making the BlackBerry more appealing to users who want more than email.
