Two Spacious Artist Studios Currently Available at AVA

Both studios, located on AVA's third floor, have wooden floors, high ceilings, and beautiful natural light from windows with southern exposure.

The third floor has a large common area, with sinks, bathrooms, and pleasant spaces for communal gatherings among the many "resident" artists.

There are twelve artists' studios on the third floor and a total of twenty studios in the building. Tenants have the opportunity to be featured in Open House events sponsored by AVA, and to be part of a unique arts community in an historic building (formerly the H.W. Carter & Sons overall factory). The building was recently renovated and awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold-certification.

All utilities are included in the rent; however, phone and internet services are paid by individual tenants. There is ample free parking space around the building.

Tenants have 24/7 access to their studios.

Specifics:

Studio 307 is 470 square feet and rents for $470/month.

Studio 309 is 504 square feet, and rents for $515/month.

Leases are subject to renewal annually.

AVA and the Dartmouth Centers for Health and Aging: Memoir Website Live!

AVA and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Aging Resource Center have partnered in a number of wonderful free community arts offerings, including sessions on Writing Memoir and Poetry, Sculpture, Mosaics, and Tai Chi.

We are now excited to announce that the website for the Writing Your Life: Memoir sessions, coordinated by group leader, Katherine Harbaugh, is live.

Please take a moment to click through to read the stories that this group has created together!

Beyond creating the website, the group is participating in the Hopkins Center's Hands on Pianos Public Art Project; they will also have a public reading of their works in AVA's Clifford B. Call for Entries: Vital Signs - Art & Science Collaborations, Inc.
Deadline: June 17

Art & Science Collaborations, Inc.'s (ASCI) annual, juried, art-sci competition exhibition will be held at the New York Hall of Science, September 1, 2012 - February 3, 2013.

This year ASCI is seeking original art inspired by our biological world with a special interest in what lies beneath its surface, and/or reflects upon scientific research questions, processes, ethics, and the stunning discoveries being made in biology and the biosciences today.

Previously, ASCI only accepted original digital prints, but this year they also welcome giclee prints made from any original 2-d art, as well as digital photos of 3-d art if that image is compelling in its own right.

ART CO-JUROR: Patricia Kernan, curator of the New York State Museum's illustration collection; and curator of the museum's international, biennial, "Focus on Nature" exhibits.

SCIENCE CO-JUROR:  Dr. Dana Boyd, microbiologist and Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School; long-time collaborator of Joe Davis, the "father" of bio-art.
