New guidelines set by the TDI bring changes for construction projects on area lakes.  All contractors doing work such as Boat Dock Construction, Boat House Construction and Bulkhead Construction must now carry General Liability.  They are required to be named as an additional insured and sometimes with a waiver of subrogation.  If the contractor does not provide evidence of coverage, they will not be issued a permit to do the work.  

  

Markel Ocean Marine does not need an ocean to provide a marine contractors quote; we only need water.   We can offer the General Liability as well as the Marine Liability.  In addition, we can offer a package and cover workboat Hull Physical Damage and Protection & Indemnity (Vessel Liability).  If we are adding Inland Marine, we can delete the waterborne exclusion for equipment on the workboat.  We also can write short term projects and Builder's Risk and/or Installation Floater for the Boat Dock/Boat House.

We currently write most excess coverage over Motor Truck Cargo forms, but we will offer excess over any coverage form where we would consider the primary exposures (except excess over Contingent Cargo).

 

Please note: 

 

• Our form does not cover the Defense Costs, even if the underlying primary policy does provide this extension of coverage.

• Traditionally, our excess coverage follows the form of the primary insurance policy.

• Excess coverage must be written to expire concurrent with the primary policy, therefore short-term policies are common.       Our policy is suspended during any period the primary policy is not in full effect.

• We prefer to have the name of the primary insurer and premium at the time of quoting.

• We do require the primary insurer name and policy number at binding and must receive a copy of the primary policy within 30 days of binding.

Congratulations to Tom Stamm, Markel's President of Contract Binding, on receiving the 2012 AAMGA President's Special Recognition award.  Tom was presented this honor at the annual AAMGA conference in San Antonio in May.  He received this year's award for his contributions to the publication of AAMGA's "Proud History and Bright Future - Volume II: 1991 - 2011."
