Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            September 11, 2012

 Greetings!

The world is different because of 9/11, now a full 11 years ago. Did you, like me, think back to this day and remember what you were doing when you first heard the news? Did you want to find others to connect with, to help process the fear? At that time, I worked from home and didn't have a community to show up to; I was at a loss for how to react. I'm grateful that much has changed. It's good to be here for each other.

A "Showcase of Innovation" at the anniversary party!

When you arrive at 6:30pm for our anniversary celebration (and YOU WILL, right?) but before The Edge Improv performs, there will be yummy food and drinks and something else we're calling a "Showcase of Local Economy and Innovation." This will be a fun opportunity to meet some of our members and see what they have invented, produced, or published this past year.

It's also a chance to check out some innovative organizations that were born under our roof, such as West Sound Time Bank, Agate Pass Exchange, Ignite Bainbridge, and... drum roll please... Accelerate Kitsap, which just got its incorporation credentials as a brand new business incubator!

Free workshops on using Facebook for business

Remember when Frank J. Kenny was our interim Chamber of Commerce director last fall? He is the author of the popular e-book The 7 Secret Laws of Society: Social Media Essentials & Strategies for Small Businesses and Associations. He hosted a sold-out social media seminar last year at Islandwood, which I personally found very useful. If you missed him then, the Poulsbo library is featuring Frank at two free workshops on utilizing Facebook. OfficeXpats probably won't return to the topic of social media in our Tuesday @noon workshops until next May, so take advantage of this nearby venue!

Sept. 18: Getting Started with Facebook
Sept. 25: Beyond the Basics and All the Latest, focusing on how to use Facebook's Timeline effectively for personal needs or business needs.

Both workshops, sponsored by Poulsbo Friends of the Library, will be from 6:30-8pm at the library, 700 NE Lincoln Road. For more information, call the library at 360-779-2915.

Leadership skills for entrepreneurs: What's adventure got to do with it?

This week, Leigh Calvez's session showed how we can identify clues to our own personal genius by paying attention to our emotional reactions during adventure. She helped us see the difference between aspiring to values and living our values. Then, as we guide our businesses through scary times, many of our fears are triggered when we

Alyse McConnell leads next week's business coaching session

"step away from our tribe" to try something innovative, and our fears are telling us to "stay safe" and "just fit in." My favorite quote came right at the end: "Don't forget to celebrate; it's how we know we've gotton to where we wanted to go."

Next week in Alyse McConnell's session: Are you running your business or is it running you? As entrepreneurs we wear so many hats it's sometimes hard to be sure your head is on straight. Take this hour to pause, name your highest priorities, and create a plan to fulfill on them powerfully and with less chaos. Stop the overwhelm, reduce the stress, and get back to YOU running your business. [more]
