Enjoy summer, even at work! Many of us are taking advantage of the deck for some warm outdoor breaks, or even to work. We'll be cooking burgers out here next Thursday, August 9 in honor of National Coworking Day! It will be a FREE day, so spread the word and plan to bring some friends. More to come next week. 
 
August workshops start next Tuesday (Aug. 7) to explore small budget advertising
Two publishers and a marketing expert jointly offer guidance about squeezing the highest return out of your small advertising budget. Even if you have never advertised before, you will learn how to experiment with online and print ads, when to use which type, and how to track your results. 
 
Our three experts deliver the "8 Truths of Advertising," share their rules of thumb (and when to break them), explore the anatomy of an effective ad, and teach how to write compelling 'calls to action.' Learn from case studies about local advertising successes with small budgets. Receive the first ever all-in-one cheat sheet as a class handout that compares low cost local advertising options!

No photography workshop this week  :-( Steve Wilson photography workshop

 

Due to a family emergency, Steve Wilson has canceled the photography workshop for TODAY, Tuesday, July 31st. He has offered to make up the class, and we will again take advantage of his generosity. We have had some great momentum and discussions in recent weeks!

 

We haven't set a date yet, but we will probably organize this last session as a review of your 5 best photos, submitted in advance so that Steve has a chance to look them over (you are still invited to attend even if you don't submit photos, of course.) Stay tuned for the reschedule.

The Hub Seattle Gets New Coworking Space to Share with Bainbridge Graduate Institute  

 

From our member Leif Utne: Great news for Seattle coworkers and social entrepreneurs! The Hub Seattle ("Coworking for the common good") is opening a massive new space this September in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square neighborhood. GeekWire broke the news with "New Center for Impact and Innovation inks lease at Pioneer Square's historic Masins furniture building."

 
In addition to Hub Seattle's 15,000 square feet of coworking space, the new
Center will house the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (a 10 year-old "green" MBA program), as well as the local branches of Social Venture Partners and Ashoka, and a slew of other worldchanging startups, nonprofits, foundations, and investors. I toured this spectacular building and I have to say, it will easily rival both the San Francisco Chronicle building -- home to Hub SOMA and a TechShop-- and Toronto's amazing Centre for Social Innovation. It might even beat out CoCo Minneapolis as the most beautiful coworking space in the US, though we'll have to withold judgment untill we see the tenant improvements. Huge congrats to Brian Howe, Shaula Massena, Jacob Colker, Lindsay Engh, and the rest of the Hub Seattle crew for pulling this off.
