Bainbridge Island at work... together! July 9, 2012

Greetings!
OK, the parade was SO much fun, and we're already thinking of ideas for next year. Steve Wilson is back for the second photography workshop tomorrow, and some of us may be brave enough to show our own photos for discussion. The writers group meets on Thursday and is open to drop-ins for the curious. And finally, we're just so sad about the 122 restaurant burning down last night. Before the 122 opened last year, we considered locating OfficeXpats there!
Coworkers take their "productivity" and collaboration to the streets.
Around 1pm on Wednesday, July 4th, a wonderful crew of Xpat coworkers climbed on board a flatbed trailer that had been transformed by the actual furniture and fixtures of the OfficeXpats reception area. The arching 3-globed tiki lamp was an instant identifier, but looking closer also revealed the 3-volume set of Edward Tufte books on information design, carefully taped to its table for stability. Black t-shirts proudly proclaimed "Plays independently with others" while the wearers alternately looked busy with their laptops or exhorted the crowds with hollers of "working alone sucks!" Steve Wilson to lead 2nd 'Power of Photos' workshop

The picture of Steve on the right is by Tobias Eigen. It captures a sense of learning from a master, doesn't it? I talked with Steve afterwards and told him I hoped he would say more about his photos, what he liked about them, and what he was trying to accomplish. I had to push him a little because he was worried he would come across as too big of an ego."No, that's what we want" I told him, and I hope we get him to show off a little.
What I got from the last class: "Make" (not just take) photos. What am I passionate about? Do my photos show that passion? Some photos create an element of surprise. The right photo can take hours, days, or even weeks to get!
Steve also wants to see our pictures. I spent hours over the weekend selecting some. So bring yours and make sure he has plenty of options to work with. The easiest solution is if you put them on a thumb drive as .jpg files, but hard copy is fine too and we can even hook up your computer to the projector if needed. SPELL Writers Meet-up
Thursday, July 12, 3-5pm brings us another episode of SPELL, a completely disorganized group of writers who meet at OfficeXpats. You are invited! There are no prerequisites, no homework, no special hats. Just writers who want to meet and share. This week, we will have a free-writing exercise on the description of a character.
