How They Started: 30 Good Ideas that Became Great Businesses

June 8, 7:30-9am:  Carol Tice is a special guest at Bainbridge Business Connections (BBC) this Friday, and will also be featured at Eagle Harbor Books on Thursday, June 14. Her book "How they Started" has just been published, and she will share her journey with us, both traditional publishing and the self publishing path.

Carol's book, which she co-authored with entrepreneur David Lester, celebrates the theme for our Summer of Innovation program, with stories about how you turn a good idea into a great business. With success stories ranging from retail and gaming to social media and the restaurant business, their book relives the humble beginnings of thirty companies including Coca-Cola, Disney, Google, and Twitter. Interviews with founders and investors give the inside scoop on each company's first steps and how they hit it big. Carol is also a regular writer for Entrepreneur Magazine. Congratulations, Carol!

How much money can I expect to make from my book or publishing project? What are the chances of getting my book into Eagle Harbor Books, Barnes & Noble, or Costco, or onto Amazon Kindle?. Please RSVP here.

First "Summer of Innovation" Candidate

A local company wanting to grow within coworking is El Dot Designs, a certified B-Corp furniture design company that has matched sustainable bamboo materials with elegant modern designs. El Dot can train groups of workers anywhere in the world to hand-craft its furniture. The partners developed their concept while living in Nepal, and have trained both Northwest and Nepalese artisans to build furniture for distribution through socially responsible outlets.

Lishu Rodriquez, one of the El Dot partners, shared that "We are looking forward to one-on-one time with mentors who can help us create an efficient company." To nominate your company for Summer of Innovation, check the website!

"Bamboo is the world's most sustainable wood" states El Dot founder, Lishu Rodriguez
