The Social Media workshop continues on Tuesday with judicial candidate Karen Klein summarizing some legal issues for social media, and we will also continue with more page-building. TED Talk viewings also continue on Fridays at 9:15am. And follow our news in the next few weeks as we unveil plans for establishing a business accelerator for Bainbridge Island!

 

Build Your Start-up in a Coworking Space!
To borrow from an Inc. article on coworking, there are many reasons to locate your startup in a coworking space, and we are getting close to launching a program that matches young, innovative companies in Kitsap County with sponsors who pay the rent and mentors who offer guidance. 
 
The word is getting out, and already a few startups have come forth to indicate an interest in this program. We are creating space for 5-10 such companies, with 1-3 partners or employees who plan to work full time at OfficeXpats. Expect 24/7 access, a place to stash your stuff, and a rich dose of community to help nuture your ideas and your business. And a place to hang your shingle in the Pavilion! In return, you offer your story and enthusiasm as PR opportunities to your sponsor and the program as a whole. Expect some attention!
 
Please contact us if your business has a good innovative story to tell, if you could be a mentor, or if you would like to help sponsor a company. We will have more details to announce in upcoming weeks.

Tuesdays at noon in June: Self-publishing for revenue and business building

2008 was a turning point for the publishing industry. For the first time in history, more books were self-published than those published traditionally.

 

With self-publishing (also called 'alternative' or 'independent' publishing), the author is responsible and in control of the entire process, including cover and interior design, formats, price, distribution, marketing and PR.
 
In this workshop, we explore why small businesses would want to use self-publishing services and navigate some of the choices and issues facing novice publishers.
