A coworking community and events center on Bainbridge Island                       February 6, 2012

Greetings!

Rod Stevens recently wrote about who we are on Bainbridge Island, painting a picture of growth and isolation from census data, and also suggesting a way out of that isolation.

Those of us in the largest age group on Bainbridge Island are middle-aged, but most of the growth of the past 10 years has been seniors. Stevens points out that "Many of those who are working are self-employed, at the rate of about one per five households. Add in those who work for a company in Bellevue or Seattle but work from home one or two days a week, and there is probably about one person working at home for every three to four households. How do we support and connect all of those people so they are not so isolated? How do we bring all of this talent on Bainbridge together to create more opportunities?"

He goes on to suggest "One way is to think of ourselves as a 'learning community... Imagine more of a peer-to-peer system in which residents learn from one another."

We happen to be imagining just that! We have newly formed peer learning groups for Ignite Bainbridge (Wed, 1pm), Kanban (Fri, 11am) and short video production (stay tuned!), and I heard a rumor there might be interest in starting a writer's group. Let us know if you have an idea for a learning group, and we may be able to sponsor you!

Friends of Facebook, Face-to-Face

Mary West
Mary West, the "Queen of Networking," is a connector.
She is also a contributing author of "Your ultimate Sales Force: 159 Strategies to Generate Referrals and Be Worthy of Them!" Mary's passion is helping business owners to connect and build relationships.
Many of us have Facebook "friends" whom we may not actually know face-to-face. There's a meet-up for that! Starting this Wednesday, Mary West and Ann Whitmore team up to bring those Facebook friends together face-to-face. Variations of this group in Bremerton, Poulsbo and more have become great venues for meeting people in our community who can help spread the word about our businesses.

First meeting: Wednesday, February 8, 11:30-12:30 pm, here at OfficeXpats.

Please join us any Wednesday, and bring friends! Help us to build a thriving "Friends of Facebook" networking group on Bainbridge. Questions? Call Ann Whitmore 206-890-4797 or email. Annwhitmore@gmail.com
