A coworking community and events center on Bainbridge Island                       December 26, 2011

"Enlighten us, but make it quick"

Greetings!

Welcome to the last week of 2011. It's Monday, and Think Week is ON. Our vision for 2012 is that OfficeXpats becomes the place on Bainbridge where small businesses and big ideas find community and support.  I am committing to have some sort of plan in place by Friday for how we do that. Below is a list of Think Week events -- and if you are a techie, artist, marketer, or anyone who wants some peer support, don't miss Thursday's chance to find like-minded folks to form an interest group. And of course you are welcome to cowork for free anytime this week, for some peace of mind and your own planning.

Ignite presentation
Get your BIG idea across in 20 slides and 5 minutes, like this idea for 30-day challenges

Here is one idea for 2012 that I'm very excited about: we could start a Bainbridge "Ignite" group! Ignite answers the question "If you had five minutes on stage, what would you say? What if you got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds?"  Started in Seattle in 2006, Ignite nights have now occurrred around the world. Check out this Ignite performance; there's a good overview of the structure at the beginning, then, at around minute #30 is my favorite talk, on the benefits of taking on 30-day challenges. It's like a TED Talk lite!

So, what if Bainbridge Island had a monthly Ignite meet-up to practice our presentations and get some peer coaching -- like Toastmasters? Then every 3-6 months, we would organize an Ignite Night and invite Bainbridge to witness our big ideas? Come to a planning session this Wednesday at 3:30pm and let's figure out how we can help each other become effective and entertaining presenters.

THINK WEEK Monday
THINK WEEK Monday check-in
THINK WEEK Monday morning check-in

"Alex, meet Tobias, for real this time, not just on Facebook." Graphic designer/artist meets tech enabler for African non-profits. Leif and Tobias share an interest in Drupal development. Jason is listening too, with an ear for ways to showcase member profiles on the OfficeXpats web site. And three of us are working on similar goals for our social media marketing! Resources and knowledge to be shared. Next Monday, we'll see how we did compared to what we set as goals today. The Monday morning check-ins will continue into 2012.
THINK WEEK pancakes
Pancakes in the making!

Wait, there were pancakes too? Really? Haha! Chocolate chip and banana. We might just continue the tradition throughout the week IF Leslie can remember to bring a spatula. We made it through today without too much mangling, but there's a reason spatulas were invented.

If weekly accountability and resource sharing would help you or someone you know who works independently, please !
