Ideas and influencers for real results in 2012
Greetings!
| Todd Clark is getting focused and getting visual at the same time! |
In preparation for Think Week I'm reviewing some of the great ideas from bloggers I have learned to trust and enjoy. I've pulled some themes from each that will shape my goals for the coming year, and here are two. There are two more on the OfficeXpats blog, on "The future of marketing 2012 and beyond," and "The next phase of your career (Design)."
Get LIT; a fire under every butt/Todd Clark:Do and View. This is one-fun-blog, and it's where I discover some great online tools, like this micro-journaling tool that I use almost every day. This post has two themes for my 2012 list: (1) become more focused, (2) think and communicate visually (which we revisit in the Tuesday Business Brown Bag, tomorrow at noon).
Making a Living Writing/Carol Tice: Marketing 101 for Freelance Writers: #1-The Essential First Step. Carol is an islander! Her blog is also a 2011 winner of Top 10 Blogs for Writers and Best Blogs by Women. I'm taking away the advice on building relationships. I'm hoping to book Carol for a Tuesday Business Brown Bag in 2012, and I recently was the beneficiary of her marketing advice when we had lunch. The idea of Think Week was inspired by that brainstorm.
I'd love to learn about who influences you! Stop in during Think Week (Dec26 - 30) and we'll compare notes.

12/20 Tuesday Business Brown Bag: Visual Thinking
 |
Bill Ruddick helps us unpack Dan Roam's "visual thinking toolkit" |
In Part II of our "less talk; more pictures" theme, Bill Ruddick will give us the highlights from Dan's latest book Blah Blah Blah. Bill will lead us in a discussion on communicating ideas with a simple set of pictures that represent the concepts of who/what, how much, when, how, and why with simple pictures that anyone can draw. Participants will be invited to try their own hand at illustrating their business or idea. Bring your lunch and join us from 12-1:30 to practice being more effective communicators. |
"American Street Philosophers: in Pursuit of Happiness"
 | Steve Wilson previews his book project "Street Philosophers" on Jan 6 at the First Friday Art Walk |
January 6, 2012: Steve Wilson, the photographer whose stunning Northwest nature photos are displayed at OfficeXpats, will show photos from his new book project and tell stories of the philosophers he has met who were living on the streets of Bainbridge Island, Seattle, and in Dignity Village in Portland. Steve is an activist at heart, and he is counting on this project to help us see the beauty and wisdom and even leadership of those among us we would rather not acknowledge. In so doing, we may have to challenge our assumptions about their value in society. Be ready for some surprises about the not-so-obscure histories of certain charaters in this project!
Steve has been a Bainbridge Island and Seabeck resident since 1951. His photos have been published in National Geographic, Life, and Smithsonian magazines, to mention but a few. Exhibitions include the

American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York City, the Smithsonian Institution and the Corcoran-National Gallery in Washington DC, and the Boston Museum of Science. Locally, Steve has had exhibits at the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, the Tacoma Nature Center, and many more in our own backyard such as Islandwood and Bainbridge Arts and Humanities.
Please save the date and help us get the word out about this rare opportunity to see Steve in an intimate setting. |
