Tuesday Business Brown Bags Begin

Greetings!

Bring your lunch and join us on Tuesdays! This new weekly community event at OfficeXpats is part of our original vision: pick topics that most small businesses need help with, and find experts--starting with our own membership--to give a brief presentation and share their experience. This event is open to all; bring your lunch and drop in on any part of our discussion 12:00-1:30. This is not a formal class, so arrive and leave whenever you need to.

Alex Sanso leads this brown bag on branding

This first Business Brown Bag features our member and artist Alex Sanso leading a discussion on how to create a business brand. She has show-and-tell designs from two local businesses, one a 'solopreneur' and the other a business-to-business web site.

Topics coming soon to the Tuesday Business Brown Bag include digital marketing, how to automate bookkeeping tasks using Quickbooks, alternative currency/bartering systems, and critical business resources that you can access for free.

Come to this first Business Brown Bag and you could be a winner in a drawing for one of our new Flextime punch cards (Alex designed the artwork on this card!). The punch card is good for six 2-hr drop-in "productivity breaks" at OfficeXpats (that's 12 hours total, for those of you who hate math), and you do not have to be a member to use them. Flextime punch cards are available for sale for $60, and you will also receive one as a gift if you refer a member to us.

We look forward to many great discussions as we get this series rolling.

Who We Are

1st Wednesday Networking Event "Connects"

OfficeXpats member Ann Whitmore proposed a new monthly networking event that would allow people to really get to know each other's businesses. She pulled together some last-minute promotion, and voila! People kept pouring in! Everyone got a chance to hear everyone else give a very short 'elevator pitch,' and then there was time for one-on-one personal connecting.

We decided that each month 2-3 sponsors would bring food and drink, and these sponsors would get extra time to describe their businesses. As sponsors this month, Ann described her health and weight-loss coaching business, Gregg Dawson gave a preview of his workshop Building Financial Security (see our events below for Ann's weight loss support group and Gregg's workshop), and Leslie described OfficeXpats memberships and programs. We now have volunteers to be next month's sponsors; if you are interested in sponsoring in 2012, be sure to come for our 1st Friday on December 7.

In the News, and thanks for the Raves and Tags!

IslandMoms is a great online resource for this community, and we've noticed a few raves popping up in the 'business buzz and raves' forum. These are completely unsolicited but oh, so appreciated!  Our biggest challenge is finding the right audience for our not-yet-mainstream business offering, and every bit of word-of-mouth helps. Thanks!

Also, the Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal published an article about us last week! We found out about it when the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce tagged us on their Facebook page and then also gave us a shout out for some successful meetings held here.

Quick tip: Do you subscribe to the Chamber's newsletter? It has a really great list of events on the island, and you might want to get on their calendar if you have something coming up. (By the way, we have signed up for the Social Media Marketing conference, with interim-Chamber Executive Director Frank J. Kenny as the featured speaker.)

If you missed any of our earlier media coverage, there are three other articles listed on the  "In the News" web page on OfficeXpats.com, each with great pictures and stories.
