Last year some folks figured out that the first space dedicated to coworking--Spiral Muse Coworking Group--had opened on August 9, 2005, five years earlier. That makes coworking six years old in just a few days! Even though we are not ready to open for real just yet, we are going to celebrate. Martha Monkman is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and her company The Number Factory is a QuickBooks accounting and technical support business.  She handles QuickBooks tune-ups, quarterly WA State Taxes, bookkeeping reviews, and non-profit accounting for businesses here on the island. Martha has 20 years of experience in accounting and finance.

 

"I don't need a full-time office space, but will enjoy being able to work outside of my home where I have business services such as copying, printing and wireless connections.  I have added a couple of bookkeepers and it will be wonderful to be able to have a place to meet for staff updates, do some QuickBooks employee training and also to meet other entrepreneurs!" The term 'coworking' has been around for a while, but Spiral Muse Coworking Group, started by Brad Neuberg on August 9, 2005, was the first dedicated space. Various coworking groups are now organizing events to celebrate August 9th as Coworking Day.

 

We're not sure how far along the tenant improvements will be by Tuesday. Regardless, even if we have to set up tables in the Pavilion's atrium, we will offer a day of coworking to the community, complete with free wifi, free coffee and tea, and free nibbles. We will even be providing free lunch while it lasts! Everyone is invited to come in the spirit of coworking, to bring your laptop and hang out while getting work done, or by taking a lunch break to join us for pizza or something grilled. Tell us the story of how you achieved worker independence, or make your future intentions official by signing our Declaration of Worker Independence. We want to meet you and celebrate new ways to work.  Spread the word and show up; no RSVP needed.

How many days each month would you use OfficeXpats? 
A 'day' might be eight hours or more* of getting work done in a productive, professional, and socially supportive environment. Or using a reserved conference room to host 6 people for a 2-hr meeting. Or both! You could even invite additional meeting attendees to join by Skype videoconference. Don't forget, we're exploring 'new ways to work'.

Who We Are

OfficeXpats on Bainbridge Island is a response to the growing need for a solution beyond working at the corporate office or working from home.

 

Coworking is about making the personal choice to work alongside other people instead of in isolation. We offer a shared office environment that meets the conferencing and community needs of remote workers, independent consultants, and entrepreneurs.


Opening this August, OfficeXpats is located in the Pavilion on Madison, just a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal. We hope to help you in your quest for 'new ways to work.'
