Country Club Contribution - Proposal Approved
| |
Members voted by a significant margin to approve the proposed adjustment to the Glenmore Country Club's contribution to the GCA. As announced at the October 20 GCA Board Meeting, we received 442 votes, of which 357 (81%) were in favor of the proposal. An amendment to the Covenants & Restrictions of Glenmore will now be recorded, reflecting a reduction in the club's contribution from 50% to 25% of both gatehouse labor and Piper Way road maintenance costs, bringing the club's contribution more in line with actual usage. GCA President Cole Hendrix said he felt this was a vote of confidence by the community for the Country Club, recognizing its essential role in maintaining Glenmore's ambiance and property values. Many thanks to all who voted.

Gatehouse Changes Approved
| |
Following a presentation by Capital Improvements Committee and Controlled Access Committee members, the GCA board decided at their October Meeting to approve a project to implement a License Plate Recognition system for residents' access to the community. This will eventually replace both the clickers and Flash2Pa ss mechanisms for opening the gate, by automatically reading the license plate of incoming vehicles, matching it against a list of known residents' vehicles, and opening the gate if the vehicle is recognized. It is more secure and flexible than the current systems, and allows vehicles to be added, changed, or deleted at no additional cost to residents. There will be a period of parallel operation while the new system is fine-tuned, and residents' license plate information is updated. More information will follow once a detailed implementation plan has been put together.
An additional project was approved to add two more parking spaces at the gatehouse, immediately behind the existing two locations, on the central median.

Kilchattan Repairs
| |
Kilchattan Lane has been badly affected by water seepage under the pavement, which has now led to failure of the road surface, requiring a full repair. In early November part of the road will be dug up, drainage installed, and the gravel base and pavement replaced.

The Dumpsters Return!
|
The popular Glenmore Dumpsters will be making their fall return once again this year. They will be available from November 12 through November 20. This will allow one full week plus two weekends. We will again contract for two dumpsters this fall so that one will always be available whilethe other one is being emptied. The dumpsters will be located near the RV lot - just beyond our water treatment plant on Carroll Creek Road. Please don't throw in waste oil, tires or toxic materials and flatten all large cardboard boxes. Also, please throw items INTO the dumpster, don't leave them on the ground beside it! The Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA will again be accepting good used items on November 12, from 9 am to 3 pm, for resale at their Preston Ave store, adjacent to the dumpster site.
The dumpster and surrounding area will be checked each day by a member of our Common Area Review Board. After the dumpsters are removed on November 20, do not leave any trash on the ground in the area. This service is for Glenmore residents only - no contractors or non-residents.

Fall Limb Pick-up Time
|
On Monday, November 14, we will have our fall "Small Limb and Branch Pick-Up." Please have all branches to be chipped (up to six inches in diameter) at the edge of your driveway BY 8:00 A.M. Please do not place your brush and limbs at the street sooner than one week prior to the pick-up. Since all items must be fed into the chipper large end first, please have the large ends of all branches facing in the same direction. If you don't do this the workmen must begin by unscrambling your pile - and we are paying by the hour. Also, please check the common areas near your home and place any downed branches at the nearest roadside. In case of bad weather, or if we can't get it all done in one day, chipping will continue into the week.
Not to be chipped: stumps, leaves, shrubbery, roots, dirt, lumber, metal of any kind and large-scale lot clearing.

GCA Leaf Pickup Schedule
|
Below is the schedule for our annual leaf removal activity. Please have leaves piled within 8 feet of your roadside, by 8:00 A.M. on your indicated date, but not on the road itself or near your mailbox or on the walking path . All listed pick-up dates are Mondays, allowing homeowners to collect leaves over the weekend.
We will collect on the indicated streets during the week, with the precise schedule left up to the contractor and the weather. Since we will be using a vacuum hose system, bagged leaves, brush, shrubbery or any other debris will not be collected.
Please do not pile leaves on any GCA common area, especially the Piper Way median. This does not look good and may kill the grass under the leaves. Also, be fair to your neighbors and do not dump leaves (or anything else) on any vacant lot. If our leaf pick-up schedule is not timely for you or you would like multiple pick-ups, please contract with one of the many lawn maintenance companies that work in Glenmore. They are listed in the telephone yellow pages under "Lawn Maintenance."

Shadwell Traffic
| VDOT has advised that installation of the new traffic signals at Luck Stone quarry will start early December. Work on the Shadwell road bridge will begin soon, but will not require the road to be closed at this time. The bridge is expected to be closed to all traffic from April through June of 2012. |

Landscaping Proposals to be Reconsidered
| |
Another project from the Capital Improvements Committee was for improvements to landscaping within our entrance corridor. Following a presentation by a landscape architect, the board decided against immediately implementing the proposals. The CARB had expressed concern that it would involve unnecessary replacement of many existing plantings in good condition, particularly at the Route 250 entrance and the Piper Way/Glenmore Way junction. However, there was support for renovating the area around the gatehouse and possibly extending the water supply. A revised proposal is likely to be put forward in the future.
