Traffic Signal

STH 33

The new signals are scheduled to be operational by the end of the week, after which the poles, wires, ballast blocks, and temporary signal control boxes are to be removed.  All street lighting is completed and operational. Crews are working on completing the sidewalks.  All traffic pavement is completed and the last permanent traffic markings are being installed.  The final landscaping is being done.  A "punch list" of final corrections and remaining work has been delivered to the contractor to be completed by September 21st.

I-43

Crews are setting forms to pour the final sections of the new deck by the end of next week. They will need to temporarily close one lane under the overpass for less than a day to place stone and binder oil on the slopes along the abutments. The work is scheduled for an October 2012 completion.  Questions/Concerns about the I-43 project can be directed to the field office at 262-268-0059.

Local Streets

East Whitegate Drive and Parkside Lane have had spot patching done in advance of slurry sealing scheduled for late September.  Motorists are urged to drive slow on these streets until after the slurry has been applied.

September is Emergency Preparedness Month
September is National Preparedness Month.  Have you taken steps to prepare for an emergency?

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), three elements of good preparation are:

  • Being Informed -- Learn about the potential emergencies that can happen where you live and know the appropriate ways to respond to them.
  • Making a Plan -- Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan what you would do in different situations. How would you get to a safe place? How would you contact one another and get back together?
  • Building a Kit -- Find a list of suggested items to include in an emergency supply kit.

Taking these steps could help you and your family in the event of an emergency.

The ReadyWisconsin website has more information on how to make an emergency supply kit on a budget, tips for creating your own emergency plan and commonly asked questions and answers about preparedness. Just go to: http://readywisconsin.wi.gov .  ReadyWisconsin is a preparedness program from Wisconsin Emergency Management.

 Cross Connection Inspections

Drinking WaterWhat Is a Cross Connection?

A cross connection is a direct or potential connection between any part of the public water supply system and a source of contamination or pollution. The most common form of cross connection is a garden hose, which is easily connected to the public water supply system and can be used to apply a variety of potentially dangerous substances, including chemicals and fertilizer. Other common cross connections include dishwashers, toilets, pressure washers, boilers, pools, and lawn sprinkler systems.

In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI), of New Berlin, Wisconsin to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control program.

HDI will be sending postal notices and will begin to perform initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices or assemblies where necessary. This will help ensure that contaminated or polluted water cannot backflow into clean drinking water. There is no cost for the inspection and each inspection takes less than 45 minutes on average for a business and less than 20 minutes for a home inspection.
