STH 33
Except for the area under the I-43 overpass and the revised overhead signs - the project is paved, pavement marked, and signed. The roadway is open to 4 lanes, except for where the contractor works during the day. Work continues on the traffic signals, street lighting systems, and the last sections of concrete that need to be graded out and poured. This work is scheduled for completion the week of September 4th. The final surface paving underneath the I-43 overpass will be done Wednesday, September 5th at night. The area between the ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through.
Motorists are reminded to be cautious using the new roundabouts as others not familiar with them are still learning how to navigate through them. Slow down and be patient. The general comments so far is that most people like them.
Questions/Concerns should be directed to Wis DOT Field Representative Paul Piccione, 262-235-4000.
I-43
Crews continue forming up and pouring the new overpass decks. Their work will require lane closures underneath. This project has an October 2012 completion timeline.
Questions/Concerns about the I-43 project can be directed to the field office at 262-268-0059.
Local Street Work
Two streets, Parkside Lane and E. Whitegate Drive, are scheduled for slurry sealing. This will require an overnight closure but residents will be informed of the day these streets are to do be sealed.
Stay tuned to "Saukville Says" for updates. |

Now that grass is growing again, please DO NOT cut or blow grass, leaves, or lawn debris into the street. The debris will clog storm sewer grates and create a potential flood hazard.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Saukville clean.
We are also asking residents to help with the watering of the Village street-trees. They are still stressed from the drought. Only 5 gallons of water a week is needed for trees younger than 10 years to stay healthy.
Remember, there will be NO CHIPPING next week because of Labor Day. Chipping will resume on Monday, September 10th. Have a great Labor Day weekend.

Were you aware that you can follow the rise and fall of the Milwaukee River as it passes thru the Village. This information is always available on the National Weather Service website or by clicking on the link at the bottom of our homepage.
Click "River Status" to view.
Weather conditions permitting, the monthly test of the Village warning sirens will occur on September 7th at 1:00 p.m. The sirens are tested monthly to ensure their readiness if needed to alert residents of severe weather. |
|
Urban Wildlife | |
Due to the proximity of the Village to the Milwaukee River and numerous wooded areas, residents often find themselves looking at deer, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and other wild creatures in their yards from time to time. While these creatures may appear benign, residents are urged not to feed or approach them. When encouraged to co-habitate near humans, they lose some of their natural fear and can become quite bold. In addition to doing property damage such as entering attics and garages, they can also be dangerous to humans and pets and may suddenly attack without provocation. Many are also known hosts for rabies. There have been at least 2 instances in recent years where deer have jumped through windows and caused considerable damage to the house in both cases. If you are experiencing problems with wildlife, do not try to catch it or call the Humane Society. There are reputable wildlife control contractors that are experienced with this that are listed in the phone book.
