The demolition of the other half of the overpass continues the week of August 6th. Lane restrictions will continue to accommodate the work.  Construction of the new lanes will continue to be done concurrently.  I43 motorists are reminded to watch the reader signs along the interstate for changing conditions.  Because it is a work zone, fines will double and the State Patrol is placing additional emphasis on patrolling this section.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

NNO

Ozaukee County's National Night Out will be held August 14th

from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Grady Park in Saukville.

National Night Out (NNO) is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and Police-Community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

We invite families to enjoy the evening meeting law enforcement officers from all over Ozaukee County.  Check out the inside of different police squads, motorcycles, and four wheelers.  Meet the canine unit.  Ask questions of the many participants including members from Probation and Parole who handle the registered sex offenders and members of the Drug Enforcement Agency, or sit in during an informational talk about drug use and what to look for.  Take this opportunity to have your child fingerprinted!

Food and beverages from local vendors will be available.  There will be a raffle that costs nothing to enter other than a non-perishable food donation, as well as children's games with prizes.  Pick up brochures, pencils, pens, junior police badges, and glo-sticks for the kids.  The entire event is free of charge due to the great donations by local businesses and civic groups.  Come join us for a fun and informative evening.

Public Works Update

Due to the extremely dry conditions, many village trees are experiencing stress.  You can help by watering the street trees 10 years old and younger at your property with 5 gallons of water per week.  This will greatly help the village crews and you will help save trees and keep our community beautiful.

Even though lawns are not growing due to the current dry conditions, weeds are.  Please keep in mind that the property maintenance requirements still apply.  Please refer to the Village of Saukville Municipal Code regarding "Maintenance of lawns, yards and property foliage" for complete information.

Cross Connection Program

What Is a Cross Connection?

Garden HoseA cross connection is a direct or potential connection between any part of the public water supply system and a source of contamination or pollution.  The most common form of cross connection is a garden hose, which is easily connected to the public water supply system and can be used to apply a variety of potentially dangerous substances, including chemicals and fertilizer.  Other common cross connections include dishwashers, toilets, pressure washers, boilers, pools, and lawn sprinkler systems.

In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI), of New Berlin, Wisconsin to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control program.

HDI will be sending postal notices and will begin to perform initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices or assemblies where necessary. This will help ensure that contaminated or polluted water cannot backflow into clean drinking water. There is no cost for the inspection and each inspection takes less than 45 minutes on average for a business and less than 20 minutes for a home inspection.
