Burning Ban |
Due to the extremely dry conditions, the Saukville Fire Dept. has issued a BURN BAN in the Village of Saukville. There will be NO RECREATIONAL BURNING ALLOWED, including burning in permitted fire stoves and approved pits. This ban is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice. |

Celebrating the 4th of July Responsibly
Independence Day is a time for celebration and summer fun. Fireworks are commonly associated with 4th of July celebrations; however, due to the severely dry conditions - NO SPARKLERS will be allowed at Peninsula Park during the Fireworks festivities.
The Village would also like to remind residents of important State firework regulations...
- State law allows the sale, possession and use, without a permit, of sparklers not exceeding 36 inches in length, stationary cones and fountains, toy snakes, smoke bombs, caps, noisemakers, confetti poppers with less than ¼ grain of explosive mixture, and novelty devices that spin or move on the ground. Wis. Stat. §167.10(1).
Please keep these regulations in mind when celebrating Independence Day and help keep it fun and safe for everyone. Also, remember that fireworks can be a fire hazard. They have the potential to ignite dry grass, shrubs, and even structures, especially in these very dry conditions. |

Summer Watering Reminders
As we are off to a very hot, dry summer, it is a good idea to water your lawns, gardens, and flowers in the early evening hours. The Village of Saukville no longer offers the summer sewer credit and water evaporates very quickly in extreme mid-day heat - you are actually using more water when watering during the peak mid-day heat. We recommend watering after 6:00 p.m. for optimum efficiency.

STH 33
Landscaping, permanent signage, and signal light foundations are being constructed. The north bound on-ramp is scheduled to re-open the week of July 2nd, while the closure of the south bound off-ramp continues to be scheduled for the week of July 9th. The ramps are to be completed in time for Fish Day. The plan continues to be paving the final lift of asphalt during the evening. The permanent signals are to be operational in July. There will be a one day closure of the CTH LL roundabout, scheduled for July 16 to allow pavement removal, grading, and paving.
Questions/Concerns should be directed to Wis DOT Field Representative Paul Piccione, 262-235-4000.
I43
The first half of the north bound overpass lanes are poured and the concrete is being cured. The forms for the first half of the south bound lanes have been formed and the concrete is scheduled to be placed by June 30th.
As always, motorists are cautioned to watch for flagmen, dump trucks, and heavy equipment leaving and entering the work zones.
Slag Sealing
South Main Street, South Mill Street, and portions of Green Bay Avenue and Hillcrest Road were slag sealed by the Ozaukee County Highway Department this week. This work was done to extend the life of the pavement and avoid the high cost of replacement. Slag sealing is a very low cost option compared to reconstruction. The excess material will be removed on July 2nd which will allow traffic to work the slag into the oil for a more durable and long lasting finish. |
Cell Phone Users Will Begin Receiving Weather Warnings
(MADISON) Some cell phone users will begin receiving tornado warnings and other weather emergency notifications on their cell phones beginning this week as part of a national program to expand public warning capabilities.
Under the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system, the National Weather Service will send warnings for tornadoes, blizzards, ice storms, and flash flooding to cell phone towers. These emergency alerts will be sent to the newer version of cell phones in affected areas. Alerts will continue to be issued or available on other sources including radio/TV stations, on NOAA weather radios and local sirens.
The Wireless Emergency Alert system is the first part of a national program to alert the public by text messaging. The alerts will include a unique ring tone and vibration. They will not interrupt any phone calls or downloads in progress. In addition, cell phone users will not be charged for the emergency messaging.
The WEA system is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System known as IPAWS. The warnings will go automatically to any newer-model cell phones within range of the cell phone towers. The wireless industry estimates by 2014, most all cell phones on the market will be WEA-capable. For more information on the WEA system, go to the ReadyWisconsin website at http://ready.wi.gov/cell/default.asp |

Cross Connection Program
What Is a Cross Connection?
A cross connection is a direct or potential connection between any part of the public water supply system and a source of contamination or pollution. The most common form of cross connection is a garden hose, which is easily connected to the public water supply system and can be used to apply a variety of potentially dangerous substances, including chemicals and fertilizer. Other common cross connections include dishwashers, toilets, pressure washers, boilers, pools, and lawn sprinkler systems.
In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI), of New Berlin, Wisconsin to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control program.
HDI will be sending postal notices and will begin to perform initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices or assemblies where necessary. This will help ensure that contaminated or polluted water cannot backflow into clean drinking water. There is no cost for the inspection and each inspection takes less than 45 minutes on average for a business and less than 20 minutes for a home inspection. |
