The base lift of paving asphalt will be completed the week of June 11th, as well as business entrance driveways. Work continues on the footpaths and sidewalks. Street light and sign base work continues as well. Traffic has been shifted to allow work in the parkways for sidewalk, lighting, and landscaping. The southbound I43 off-ramp closure is currently planned for the week of June 25th, the northbound on-ramp closure is scheduled for the week of July 9th. Each ramp will be closed for one week. Detour routes will be posted. There will be a one-day closure of the CTH LL intersection, to be announced, to permit completion of paving in the roundabout.
Questions/Concerns should be directed to Wis DOT Field Representative Paul Piccione, 262-235-4000.

Property Maintenance |
The Village of Saukville Code of Ordinances requires "Routine Maintenance of Lawns, Yards, and Property Foliage" by all property owners. Chapter 151-2 of the Municipal Code provides for standards of property maintenance which prohibits unsightly growth and foliage of any nature.
Many years ago the Village Board of Trustees, acting upon citizen complaints about uncut lots/yards, determined that all residents should be required to maintain their property according to code. They put into effect certain deadlines and penalties in order to insure compliance - search "Property Maintenance" in the Village of Saukville Municipal Code.
Upon notification of an unmaintained yard, the Village will send a letter to the property owner. The code requires action within seven (7) calendar days. Failure to address the problem within that time will result in the Department of Public Works crew or a private contractor hired by the Village doing the work. In either case, the property owner will be billed for the cost of the work at a rate of not less than $125 per hour for labor and equipment with a minimum fee of 1 hour. Please help keep Saukville beautiful - maintain your yard regularly. Contact Village Hall (284-9423) or the Dept. of Public Works (284-0545) with any questions. |

Saukville's tornado sirens are tested, weather permitting, on the first Friday of the month at 1:00 p.m. to ensure they are ready in the event that they are needed to alert Village residents of approaching severe weather. The American Signal Corp. generously updated our siren control system with a new state of the art computer control and monitoring equipment, at no cost to the Village. Installation and testing of the equipment was completed this week. To ensure that all five siren sites were fully operational required sounding of the sirens on Wednesday (6/13) from the Sheriff's Dispatch Center and the Saukville Dispatch Center. The tests did indicate several minor problems which were quickly corrected and the system is now operational. In order to maintain and test equipment, sometimes it is not possible to notify residents in advance. We regret any confusion or inconvenience that the testing might have caused residents.

Brush Chipping | |
Residents are reminded not to park vehicles curbside in front of or near brush piles prior to Monday chipping sessions. DPW crews cannot get their equipment close enough to branch piles which makes the job more difficult to complete and runs the risk of chips and dust getting on or in the vehicle. If branches are too difficult to reach, they will not be chipped. Please - no stumps or other yard waste. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Cross Connection Program |
In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI), of New Berlin, Wisconsin to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control program. There is no cost for the inspection and each inspection takes less than 45 minutes on average for a business and less than 20 minutes for a home inspection.
Starting in June, HDI will send postal notices and begin to perform the initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices or assemblies where necessary. This will help ensure that contaminated or polluted water cannot backflow into clean drinking water.
What Is a Cross Connection?
A cross connection is a direct or potential connection between any part of the public water supply system and a source of contamination or pollution. The most common form of cross connection is a garden hose, which is easily connected to the public water supply system and can be used to apply a variety of potentially dangerous substances, including chemicals and fertilizer. Other common cross connections include dishwashers, toilets, pressure washers, boilers, pools, and lawn sprinkler systems. |

Fire Pits | |
Village of Saukville Ordinance requires that a Burn Permit be obtained prior to use of outdoor fire stoves or in-ground pits, and that such devices are to be used for recreational burning only. You must receive approval from the Fire Chief before installing a fire pit in your yard. Contact Village Hall at 284-9423 for more information.
