Hwy 33 Project Update                           Roundabout Tutorial

CautionThe I43 overpass work is underway.  Motorists are cautioned that the speed limit along this section of I43 is temporarily reduced to 55 mph for the duration of the construction.  Because it is a work zone, fines will double and the State Patrol is placing additional emphasis on patrolling this section. 

 

The STH 33 tentative plan calls for curbing and driveways to be constructed the week of April 16th.

 

As always, motorists are cautioned to watch for flagmen, dump trucks, and heavy equipment leaving and entering the work zone.

ThComposte Village Compost Drop-off Site regular hours begin April 14, 2012.  The site is open Saturdays Only, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

Curbside Branch Chipping has begun and will continue every Monday, time and weather permitting.  Branches must be curbside by 6:00 a.m. on Mondays.

 

Residents can pick-up woodchips, collected from curbside chipping, at the DPW yard.  You will need to bring a container and pitch fork or shovel to containerize your own chips.  The Village will deliver woodchips, however you must accept a full truck load (3-5 yards).  We will not come back to pick up any unused woodchips.

Each year the Oscar Grady and WJ Niederkorn Libraries bring the community together through reading a common book and participating in discussions and other activities focusing on the book and related topics. The  2012 book choice is A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold.  Join us at Oscar Grady for our discussion on April 17th.

 Mark your Calendars- 2012 Spring Clean Up Dumpsters

The Village is again pleased to provide residents with clean up dumpster service at the Public Works Garage.  This service will be available 3 Saturdays only, from 9 am to 3 pm;  April 21st, April 28th, and May 5th.  All the usual prohibitions apply; no tires, no hazardous materials, no appliances or any other items prohibited from land fill disposal.  Identification will be required to utilize the service. The Village reserves the right to refuse excess amounts or questionable materials.  Please call Village Hall in advance if you have questions about what is accepted.Recycle Symbol

 

Electronics Collection

Veolia Environmental has again offered to provide dumpster service for the collection of electronic items such as TVs, computer and printer equipment, microwaves, telephones, etc.  This service will be available ONE DAY ONLY on May 5th at the Public Works Garage from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  To use this service you MUST pre-register in advance at Village Hall to receive a pass card that must be presented at the time of disposal.  No exceptions.

Quick facts you should know about tornadoes:

  • They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.
  • They may appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms in the funnel.
  • The average tornado moves Southwest to Northeast, but tornadoes have been known to move in any direction.
  • The average forward speed of a tornado is 30 mph, but may vary from stationary to 70 mph.
  • Tornadoes can accompany tropical storms and hurricanes as they move onto land.
  • Waterspouts are tornadoes that form over water.
  • Tornadoes are most frequently reported east of the Rocky Mountains during spring and summer months.
  • Peak tornado season in the southern states is March through May; in the northern states, it is late spring through early summer.
  • Tornadoes are most likely to occur between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., but can occur at any time.

The Village has an Ordinance regarding rummage/garage sale, real estate, directional, or informational signs.   Such signs must comply with traffic visibility requirements and are not permitted in Village parks or median areas.  Improperly placed signs will be confiscated.  Signs shall be erected no more than 24 hours before a rummage sale and taken down no later than 24 hours after.  For more information, contact Village Hall.

The Oscar Grady Public Library has federal and state tax forms for patron use.  However, each year more and more Wisconsin taxpayers are filing their state and federal income tax returns electronically.  E-filing is a free and secure way to file your income tax returns.  It also allows those receiving refunds to get themIncome Taxes within days, rather than weeks, by using direct deposit.
