Sewer Rate increase effective Jan. 1, 2012

A Sewer Rate increase will take effect January 1, 2012.  Residents will see the rate increase on the first quarter billing in April.  The cost to the average household will be approximately an additional $52 per year.  The increase is necessary to cover unavoidable costs for overhead operations, rising fuel and electricity fees, loss of income due to stymied economic growth, repairs to the aging system and equipment, and environmental regulatory requirements.  The Water/Wastewater Utilities will continue to strive to keep delivery costs to a minimum without sacrificing quality of service.

Saukville Community Food Pantry

The Village of Saukville now has a Community Food Pantry located at St. Peter's UCC, 166 W. Dekora St.  You can donate by placing non-perishable food items in barrels at businesses and churches throughout the Village.  A barrel is located in the main lobby of Village Hall and also at Oscar Grady Library.  All donated food is placed with Ozaukee County families.

For those who need the Food Pantry services, it will be open the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Thursdays of each month starting in January.  Contact St. Peter's UCC at 262-284-0588 for more information.

Winter Storms & Extreme Cold

While the dangers from winter weather may vary from snow, subfreezing temperatures, strong winds, or even ice or freezing rain, they can be minimized by planning and preparation.

The National Weather service refers to winter storms as the "Deceptive Killers" because most deaths are indirectly related to the storm.  Instead, people die in traffic accidents on icy roads and of hypothermia from prolonged exposure to cold.  It is important to be prepared for winter weather before it strikes.

Step 1: Get a Kit -prepare a kit which includes items like non-perishable food, water, a battery operated radio or hand crank radio, blankets, extra flashlights, and batteries.

Step 2 : Make a Family Emergency Plan - your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to know how you will contact one another, how you will get back together, and what you will do in case of an emergency.
