STH 33 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT - UPDATE

Construction baricade

As winter approaches, the STH 33 project schedule has become increasingly tentative.  The plan continues to include paving of all intersections and driveways in the Village the week of November 14.  Due to rainfall events in the past week, this has stymied efforts to complete the work.  The Village has been in contact with WisDOT regarding the condition of the unpaved portions and flooding of of the roadway and has been stressing the need for the contractor to address these interim problems as soon as possible.

To reduce frustration with traffic backups, pre-plan your travel through the area.  Do your shopping in the evening when traffic volumes are down.  Use CTH W and Mink Ranch Road or CTH W to Sauk Road to drive to Port Washington.  If you are traveling north on I43 to go to Saukville, take exit 93 ( Hwy. 32/CTH V), go south and turn right onto CTH W and go north.

Remember to slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel when driving through the project limits.  The contractor and WisDOT are making every effort to ensure a timely schedule.

Fire Safety

Now that everyone is comfortable with the time change, did you remember to check and change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors?  Batteries should be replaced at least once a year, but the operation of the detector should be checked monthly.

Something else to be aware of...the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that smoke detectors be replaced every 10 years.  Look on the back of your detectors to find a date.  This is the date your detector was manufactured.  If this date is longer than 10 years ago, replace your detector now.  Although the detector may still work, it may not be as effective as it was when new.
