STH 33 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT - UPDATE

Construction baricade

Paving is scheduled for the week of October 31 in order for traffic to be switched over to the south side from the Port Washington State Bank to I43.  All driveway and street intersections are to be paved yet this fall.  The goal is to have sidewalk on the south side open by winter.  The plan is to have the south leg of CTH LL open

                       for the winter and possibly the north leg as well.

To reduce frustration with traffic backups, pre-plan your travel through the area.  Do your shopping in the evening when traffic volumes are down.  Use CTH W and Mink Ranch Road or CTH W to Sauk Road to drive to Port Washington.  If you are traveling north on I43 to go to Saukville, take exit 93 ( Hwy. 32/CTH V), go south and turn right onto CTH W and go north.

Remember to slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel when driving through the project limits.  The contractor and WisDOT are making every effort to ensure a timely schedule.

Snow & Ice Removal

All property owners or occupants of a lot abutting a sidewalk are required to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowfall or sleet storm.  Village Ordinance requires that:

· Sidewalks be kept free of snow and ice;

· Snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and private property may NOT be placed on Village streets;

· Snow may NOT be pushed across Village streets.

Snowplow Safety

Please treat snowplow crews with courtesy and caution. Keeping clear of their operations allows them to do their job quickly and efficiently.

- Do not park on the street if there has been a major snowfall or you see crews plowing on streets in your area;

- Don't pull out in front of a plow at the last second;

- Keep at least 300 feet of distance from the rear of a plow as it may stop or back up without warning.

 Are you ready for winter?

November 7-11, 2011 is Winter Awareness Week in Wisconsin.Blizzard

The annual campaign, sponsored by Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM), its ReadyWisconsin preparedness program, and NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS), is to remind people to be prepared for winter conditions that could threaten their safety.  "The number one thing to do - make sure you have an emergency supply kit in your car - it could save your life," says Tod Pritchard, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Wisconsin Emergency Management.

WEM is also encouraging everyone to sign up to win a winter survival kit on the ReadyWisconsin website:  www.readywisconsin.wi.gov .

Winter storms are considered deceptive killers because most deaths are indirectly related to the storm.  It is important to start taking preventive measures for winter weather.  Now is the time to winterize your car and home, gather items for an emergency kit in your car, and make sure you have a NOAA Weather Radio with fresh batteries.  Additional winter weather tips and how to put together a winter emergency kit are available at the ReadyWisconsin website.  There are also numerous winter storm maps and a history of Wisconsin's winter weather produced by the National Weather Service.  For more information, visit ReadyWisconsin at www.readywisconsin.wi.gov .
