Public Works Update

Be Kind to the Environment ...Discharge

Spring is a good time to remember that much of the rain water from our community flows directly to the Milwaukee River by ditches and storm sewers.  Lawn fertilizers, grass clippings, leaves, anti-freeze and motor oil from leaking vehicles on the street are routinely washed into the river.  This degrades the water quality of the stream and eventually ends up in Lake Michigan.  You can make a big difference by keeping these organic materials and chemicals off the street.

Utility Information

Water Conservation at Home

The right equipment for the job. Water-efficient toilets, faucets, and accessories can save the average home more than 11,000 gallons of water per year.

Locate the master valve.   Every home, apartment and business has a master valve that controls water service.  Locate your master valve so you can find it in an emergency.  Consider turning it off if you are going out of town.  That way, drips or leaks won't surprise you when you return.

Check Your Sump Pumps

Please remember to check your sump pump and make sure it is hooked up correctly to the discharge Waterlateral and not to the sanitary sewer system.  Per Village Ordinance, it is illegal to hook-up or discharge storm water or clear water into the Village's sanitary sewer lines.  Since all discharges to the sanitary sewer end up at the treatment plant, this creates additional problems to properly process the wastewater for eventual discharge to the river.
