Michigan Institute of Clinical Health Research (MICHR) Pilot Grant Program
Application Deadline: February 15, 2012
Amount: $50,000-$25,000

This program seeks proposals from basic, clinical, and social scientists research. The goal is to promote development of novel solutions that will ultimately improve patient and community health outcomes. MICHR welcomes proposals for studies on health services, health outcomes, or health policy that inform practice, development and testing and new hypotheses or interventions, and proposals relevant to developing new methods or best practices.
EPA Environmental Justice Small Grant Program (EJSG)
Application Deadline: February 29, 2012
Amount: $25,000

Funds will support projects addressing local environmental public health issues within an affected community. The EJSG Program is designed to help communities understand and address exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks.

On Dec 8, 2011 Dr. Renee Canady presented at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. The live webcast discussed the rationale for explicitly addressing underlying racism, sexism and classism in order to be successful in efforts to eliminate racial, gender and socioeconomic disparities in health. The efforts of the Ingham County (Michigan) Health Department to focus on the role of public health in promoting social justice and the work of the health department in developing and implementing dialogue regarding oppression and social justice as vehicles for change is also described. The presentation was archived and is free to view.

The New Detroit URC Website Goes Live!
As of December, the new Detroit URC website is online. It now incorporates a sleek user friendly design, a large spectrum of pictures from the neighborhoods in which we work, and most importantly, a multitude of resources about the Detroit URC and community-based participatory research (CBPR) in general.
