Cheerfully do
+++++++++++++++++++
Don't be resentful of your responsibilities. Instead, be thankful for your abilities.
Don't feel burdened by your obligations. Instead, feel the freedom and possibilities in the opportunities you have to make a difference.
Life can often be serious, complicated and demanding. It's not all fun and games.
Yet every day, no matter what it holds, is a chance for real fulfillment. Every situation is a situation to which you can bring positive meaning and purpose.
If you get hung up on fighting against what you have to do, you can miss out on some of the most valuable and enriching things you're able to do. If you waste a lot of energy on resentment, you have that much less energy available to create achievement.
Cheerfully do what there is for you to do, then step up and do even more. Life is yours to be lived, so give your life the richness you deserve.

What You Missed in June
Janis Van Ahn, Health Insurance Advisor LLC, helped us understand about the different types of Medicare plans and how they affect us or our parents. Many of us are in the "Sandwich Generation" because we are caregivers to our parents and our own families. Janis made an otherwise "dry" topic interesting, educational and even fun!
Our Non Profit Organization of the Month was Passageway. Linda Oleson-King who is the Executive Director informed us about how 1 in 4 people suffers from a mental illness and how Passageway serves and supports its members in their pursuit of mental and physical health and helps them transition back into employment.
Marvis Baehr shared with us that Cold Calling doesn't have to be Cold. She began her dynamic presentation with her own Cold Call. Before we could realize that it was her Cold Call.. she had us captivated with her business and why she does what she does. Including humor, warmth and simple details, she gave us the idea of what your Cold Call should look, sound and feel like. Marvis encouraged the ladies to call a Good List. She shared that she had purchased the Iowa Manufacturers Guide. In this guide was a listing of corporations and small businesses with detailed information including the CEO and officers. This helped her to be able to use a name when she would call as well as understand their organizational chart.
Marvis challenged us to get comfortable with our Cold Calls. If we turn our Cold Calls into Warm Calls, our success is unlimited.
Amanda the Panda was our Non Profit for July. Charlie Kiesling, the Executive Director shared how Amanda the Panda is an organization for those suffering from a loss of a loved one. She explained that after a loved one passes away, the family's grieving doesn't stop after the funeral. Their pain continues on. Amanda the Panda comes in to comfort and support them for months after their loss and find a new "routine". We were also delighted by Tina Haase Finlay with Bellasoulmusic who sang a piece that she had composed especially for Amanda the Panda |

Children and Families of Iowa
Children & Families of Iowa doesn't just offer solutions for families and children in crisis. We offer hope when it seems like there is none left. We offer a chance to build better futures.
We offer an opportunity to change their lives.
We have been here for children and families for over 120 years. We were there when children orphaned by poverty needed someone to help find them loving, permanent homes. Through the years, we were there for "unwed" mothers, for abused women and children, for abandoned teenagers and for families on the brink of disaster.
Today, we stand on this foundation of caring as one of Iowa's largest, most well-respected providers of family services.
From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving over 21,000 people last year, we have grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child, every family deserves to be safe.

Emergency shelter beds are available from 4 pm - 8 am daily. Additional beds are allocated as longer-term transitional housing for homeless veterans. Guests are provided evening and breakfast meals; access to shower and laundry facilities, a weekly medical clinic, and group counseling; as well as individualized case management, life skills instruction, and referrals to other community services/benefits.

Amy Schafer
Amy Schafer...a woman of total worth! Not only is Amy charming, resourceful and compassionate, but she is also a licensed Realtor in Des Moines and has been since 2002. With that amount of longevity behind her, she has seen all sorts of trends in the real estate market!
Let's take a closer look at Amy when asked some questions about herself and her business...
What do you love most about what you do?
I am a creative and visual person, so I love the presentation process of showing a home. Opening doors to a house gives me a chance to not only highlight the special amenities but help create a personal space for someone to call home. I truly believe education is crucial to any real estate endeavor, so I enjoy teaching my real estate classes or the one on one experience with my clients.
Who is your target customer?
I get to enjoy working with first-time buyers all the way to experienced, executive homeowners. My best customers of all are those who appreciate my services, trust my experience and respect my abilities. What do you do to go out of your way for your clients?
I understand the home buying and selling process can be a logical decision as well as an emotional one. I joke that I am really a "real estate counselor", but that is kind of true, as I coach my clients through the process while keeping in mind that sometimes emotions can run high.
What gives you a sense of self worth?
I get great joy out of helping others personally and professionally! There's nothing better than putting a smile on someone's face and taking some of the stress out of their process when looking for a home. It's such a huge decision to make in your life that you need someone who understands the system and just as important, the client's emotions during the process.
What is the number one thing you want people to know about you?
Whenever anyone is in need of real estate services, I am here to help! If you are looking for a Realtor to help you with your real estate needs, then I would be happy to help you KNOCK on the door to this historical real estate market, UNLOCK the keys to educated homeownership decisions and OPEN the door to your new home.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When there is time to spare, I enjoy spending it in my own home. I like to take all the good decorating ideas I see in other homes and put them to use in my own. I also spend time with several different art projects, mainly hand-built ceramics.

Business Growth Tip
Success: It's How you Set Your Sail
The 'set of the sail' in life, your personal philosophy, guides you through life's difficulties and challenges. I learned this from the late Jim Rohn.
He taught that the same winds blow on us all - the winds of change, difficulty, and disappointment, for example. But the difference in how life works out is the set of your sail - your personal philosophy, which a choice you make each day. Jim says, "How quickly and responsibly we react to adversity is far more important than the adversity itself."
Learn to reset your sail with the changing winds. Get around creative, positive people, read books that help you grow, and you WILL achieve success.
