Meredith Comes 'Untied'

Meredith Baxter is soft spoken, kind, gentle and loving, and she listened attentively while I bemoaned the sad recent break-up story of my 27 year partnership. She is wise and evolved
 - kind of like having a stunningly beautiful big sister. She also clearly has a wild side. She looks you dead in the eye

Genderqueer is Not Transgendered

When I say I hate labels, and I prefer not to wear them, most people have a tendency to turn up their nose. I have never truly understood why my not needing to identify as 'something' makes me an outcast. The only thing I truly identify as is genderqueer, but not as a label, more as an explanation of my life living outside the typical gender binaries.

Many people seem to confuse genderqueer with transgendered. I get asked a lot if I am FTM (female to male). My answer is simply...

Black Swan Makes Me Hungry
The psychological thriller Black Swan is all the buzz with the "lesbian sex scene" between its stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Well yeah, everybody wants to see pretty young women getting it on with each other-even Republicans. I must hand it to Ms. Portman for delivering a solid performance as a bony young woman obsessed with being the perfect ballerina as well as a fucked up trippy chick....  View entire story

Martin & Coretta

When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated April 4, 1968 I was a teenager sitting in my bedroom.  I remember that as clearly as the assassination of JFK.  I sobbed and naively thought that his death would mean the country would wake up and repudiate the racism and violence that plague the country.  How wrong could one person be!? When Coretta passed away in January of 2006...View entire story

Mullets, Toenail Clippings & A Vibrator

Dear Battleaxe,

I was traveling through California recently and I happened to see a woman sporting a mullet. You know, business in front and a party in back. How is it possible that someone would still be wearing that hairstyle? I mean really? I'm totally shocked!

Dear Totally Shocked,

Was she wearing it with pride? Did she also have a fanny pack? Was she...View entire story

A Lesbian Child is A Gift

When I was very young, I was given a Batman utility belt for Christmas. It was a wonderful gift for a lesbian child. The wide plastic belt clipped on important tools and accessories.

A tiny metal flashlight with the black bat sign over a grey metal shaft shone a light beam....View entire story

Tasting India

I was almost six - I desperately wanted to taste India again. The bottle of gripe tonic water sat next to Dad's 4711 Cologne on top of the large tansu (Japanese/bureau) in mom and dad's bedroom. I stared at it. The tonic was very precious, it was the only thing that calmed my baby brother's colic. It came from England, and Granny sent it to us from India. I loved the taste, like rosewater.

It was what was left of my Bombay, where I belonged. I was out of place here, in Ashiya-gawa, Japan, where I was stared at like a monkey...View entire story

Black Swan vs Burlesque

I'm all caught up on my show biz chick flicks having seen Burlesque two weeks ago and yesterday's matinee of Black Swan. I took my girlfriend so I could grab her arm during the scary gross parts. I would turn towards her, in the dark theater, following the arc of her horrified reactions and gage when it was safe to resume watching the movie. My girlfriend is pretty brave. Not me. I probably averted my eyes for an 8th of the film's running time. Unfortunately I could not avert my ears from the ballerina's crunches, squishes and puking...  View entire story
