Greetings!

So you think insurance is boring?  In this month's newsletter we will share with you risks we face every day.  We will cover some of the most recent misfortunes that took place this month like our star quarterback's fender bender and the not so mighty Hurricane Earl.  Even more exciting, we will share with you some of the most extreme claims cases that we've ever heard of in our 25+ years in the industry.

Risks We Face Every Day
Today's headlines are constantly dominated by catastrophic events, such as devastating wild fires in the United States, hurricanes along the coast, the war in Iraq or the oil spill in the Gulf.  Every day there are also losses incurred by unlucky individuals in our own communities.  These are often less talked about and don't always make the media.

Fate can strike at any time.  Every day we are confronted with events such as simple traffic accidents, acts of nature or rare occurrences like your home or office burning to the ground.

There are "four" main risks we face to our income, assets and lifestyle every day:

1. Home
2. Auto

3. Health

4. Long-term Care

Think It Can't Happen to You?
Boston- On September 9, 2010, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was in a two-car accident totaling his Audi.

The crash, at an intersection in
Boston's Back Bay area blocks from Brady's home, knocked over a light pole and sent a passenger in the other vehicle to the hospital with injuries that were serious but not considered life-threatening, a police report said.  Imagine being the driver that caused this accident or worse being sued for if it resulted in an injury!

Maybe Brady was still shaken up after what we saw on Sunday's game after the accident.

Our Favorite Claims
When we experience an unfortunate event, it is often difficult to explain

oneself, especially in a written form.  Of course, this is on a good day.  Sometimes emotions and stress can compound an already difficult situation, jumbling the thinking and writing ability.  Here are some of our favorite claims.

"I thought my window was down, but I found it was up when I put my head through it."

"The pedestrian had no idea which way to run as I ran over him."

"I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident."

"No one was to blame for the accident but it would never have happened if the other driver had been alert."

A pet poodle swallowed its owner's false teeth resulting in a $1500 paid claim.

Hurricane Earl
What was all that hype about Hurricane Earl?  After continuous media, with attention and warnings, expectations were high that we would be hit hard by the storm.  Here's the effect Hurricane Earl had on the South Shore...

"Hurricane Earl was a bigger flop than Lawrence Maroney."  -Monty

Speaking of claims...whether you are talking, texting, or browsing the internet, stay tuned for next month's newsletter covering the new changes being made to cell phone use which will have an enormous effect on MA drivers.

Best Regards,

Sara
