Greetings!

I hope you are enjoying the summer weather and taking full advantage of the benefits this season brings.  This warm weather always makes me think of that song...

The days are longer, the nights are stronger than moonshine...

Fantastic weather means it's wedding season!  In this month's issue we will discuss recent news relating to the busy bridal season and the recent law changes in Massachusetts relating to slip-and-fall cases.  More importantly, we will offer you tips for protecting yourself and your belongings.

It's Wedding Season!
I bet you recently saw in the news that a $9000 engagement ring was dropped on the jetty in
Cape Cod.

Here's why you should be concerned...

For those of you that are holding onto a ring waiting to propose to that special someone, make sure that diamond is insured under your homeowner's policy.  You spent all the time and energy saving up for it, now it's just as important to protect it while it is still in your possession.

So what happens when you hand that expensive rock over to your significant other?

Changes Made to MA Slip-and-Fall Law
Boston - Recent changes have been made to the Massachusetts view of liability for slip-and-fall accidents on snow and ice.

On July 21, 2010, in the case of Papadopoulos v. Target, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court reversed the distinction of natural vs. unnatural accumulations of snow and ice. This creates a new field of liablity for property owners.

It used to be that the duty of care owed by landowners to lawful visitors on their property did not include any obligation to remove snow and ice from natural accumulation.  In order to establish a solid snow and ice case, the injury victim must show the property owner was unreasonable in the removal of snow and ice from his or her property.  No longer do the old rules of natural vs. unnatural accumulation theories apply.
