Nancy's Thank You on International Women's Day
Thank You, I'm very humbled.
I was asked why I support International Women's Day. For me the answer is easy.....
I support this day because it recognizes all the silent heroines who walk amongst us.
It's the silent heroines who work every day to make the lives of those around them a better place.
We all know these women.
· The woman who works 60 hours a week - raises her children - and still finds time to volunteer to help others
· The woman who worked all day and stayed up all night with her sick child - and got back to work in the morning
· The woman who is - or has - served our country in the armed forces
· The woman who has worked hard to "break the glass ceiling"
· The woman who consoles a friend in need
· The woman who has found the courage to leave an abusive relationship and start anew
· The woman who has been out of work and has decided to open her own business
· The woman who battles health issues and never complains
· The woman who helps a co-worker meet a deadline
· The woman who stood her ground - asked for a raise - and got it!
To all the Silent Heroines who have touched my life - I am blessed and grateful.
And yes - it is for all the Silent Heroines in our lives that I support International Woman's Day.
With me tonight is one silent heroine.
A women who ran her own business, raised her children and became my number one supporter when I arrived at her doorstep and simply said "mom, have I got a story for you".
My mom - Jo Salamone - helped me through my darkest days. You stand by me and you give me strength.
I am proud to be your daughter. I love you very much Mom.
And to all the women amongst us who continue to endure domestic violence, my hope is that one day, they too overcome their own struggles so that they can have the happy, independent life that they choose and ... and, that they deserve.
I want to thank Dr. Paula Fellingham, Lauralee Christensen, and Women's International Network for this award.
And, I want to say a special thank you to Jennifer Wilcov who is such a champion of my work and The Business of Me.
And, thank you all. I am deeply honored.
