Greetings!

July is the month we as a nation celebrate our independence from being ruled by Kings and Queens who did not know our people and our needs.

Coincidentally, July is also the month that First Dayton Cancer Care celebrates the anniversary of our center. This is a celebration of our independence. This freedom allows us to provide our patients with outstanding treatments and medical care at a lower cost. We strive to bring our patients the freedom to chose better care with fewer treatments and lesser side effects.

Celebrate our 8th year of providing the BEST radiation therapy to Southwest Ohio.

From Dr. Ed's Script Pad

July 2011 marks the 8th Anniversary of First Dayton Cancer Care. Looking back over nearly a decade, I'm proud of my team's accomplishments. I love being an independent physician. The biggest change in the past 8 years is that I have been allowed to adopt practice changing protocols by following studies in the radiobiology of cancer. We have been able to dramatically shorten overall treatment times and lower patient costs while improving positive outcomes.

For most breast cancer patients, overall treatment times have been shortened from 7 weeks to 1 week. For most prostate cancer patients, treatment can be accomplished in 5 weeks as opposed to 9. And overall costs have been lowered. Yes. Lower health care cost!

We have been able to lower breast cancer treatment cost by 65% and prostate cancer by 34%. You haven't heard much about lower health care costs in the past 8 years.

Importantly, such treatment has also resulted in improved outcomes. Real value for patients has never come at the expense of worsened side effects.

Truly, I'm proud that FDCC has put it's money where it's mouth is. We are really "First in Technology. Best in Care." Our name really says it all. And what I am most proud of is that it's all about you, the cancer patient and your family. I have spent 8 years forming a team of professionals and a set of standards that always has the best interest of the individual patient in mind.

From our family to yours,

Dr. Ed Hughes
