Greetings!

May 14, 2012

Thank you for your continued support of my newsletter. Each month I look forward to writing about a new topic that will help you achieve your wellness goals.

Allergy season is already upon us, while many of us may feel some effects of allergies, others will go through the season with severe side effects that can be very discomforting, and even painful. Of course, there is a safe and holistic solution for allergy relief, so I decided to make it this month's newsletter topic.

Review Me

If you have a Google gmail account, you can post a review of my services. Of course great reviews are preferred, but I won't "rub you the wrong way," for a lesser review.

Holistic Solutions for Allergies

It seems that allergy season starts earlier every year. People who have never experienced  allergies before are complaining of new symptoms,  such as watery eyes, sneezing, congestion, headaches and a host of other allergic symptoms. How can allergies develop out of what appears to be thin air? The fact is in places like new york city the air isn't thin. It is actually quite thick with pollution and toxins.

A person's environment is a major factor in determining their allergic response, but  whether someone develops allergies is dependent on many factors. How overburdened is their body? Is their liver able to filter out all of the toxins that it is constantly bombarded by?

Do they have viruses, bacteria, yeast overgrowth, heavy metal toxicity, chemical toxicity, parasites, mycoplasma, rickettsia, spirochetes or any other immune challenge that is making the body hypersensitive? We are generally not born with allergies; there is more information that points to an allergic development based on the total load on the body.

The total load on a person is all of the stressors acting on a person's being. These stressors include the emotional, physical realm, and mental realm. Physical stressors can include the food that the person eats, environmental toxins, etc. When the body is balanced it can handle most allergens. When it is out of balance that is when allergies appear out of nowhere. This is the body talking and relaying that something is wrong and here is the proof.

By correcting underlying immune challenges and fortifying the organs and systems, generally allergies can be significantly reduced. When the body is overburdened, it can't handle added stressors over a certain threshold.

In the alternative medicine review volume 17, number 1, a research article by Walter J. Crinnion, N.D. cites the connection between the increase of asthma and allergies with the increase of environmental toxin exposure. The exposure to toxins and pollutants causes an imbalance in T-helper function, specifically Th2 dominance, which has been linked to allergies and asthma.

Exposure to food toxins, outdoor and indoor air toxins cause an imbalance in cytokine production and IgE of the immune system. The article also cites the connection of environmental toxins and the depletion of glutathione, as a factor in altering the immune system response.

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant and is essential for DNA synthesis and repair, protein synthesis, prostaglandins synthesis, amino acid transport, enzyme activation, and immune system function. There are certain nutritional supplements that enhance glutathione in the body and can lead to less of an allergic response.

Glutathione production can also be increased from the sulphur rich foods, garlic, onions and the cruciferous vegetables, broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and watercress.

If a person is suffering from seasonal allergies, a good starting point for them is to eliminate corn and wheat from the diet. The phytic acid in corn and wheat bind to zinc, b6,  and many other essential minerals, which are essential for the body's immune response.

Some patients have noticed that their symptoms improve by this change or other removing food intolerances from their diets. Muscle testing identifies a person's sensitivities so they can be informed about which foods they should abstain from eating.

Holistic Solutions

The objective of a holistic approach to allergies is to fortify the body with what the body needs to function at an optimal level, detoxify, so it doesn't produce an allergic response, and stop the allergic response using natural supplementation. There are many natural supplements that work just as well as pharmaceutical drugs without the horrible side effects.

Certain supplements directly affect histamine levels. Histamine levels are directly correlated with  the allergic response in the body. By mediating histamine levels the body will not exhibit typical allergy symptoms.

Another mechanism for nutritional supplementation to deter the allergic response is by acting on the liver and the circulatory system. The supplements ability to increase the blood cleansing ability of the liver decreases the allergic response.

Allergy season is lasting longer and getting more and more debilitating for many people. The opportunity to use natural herbal and whole food supplementation to combat this growing problem is a much healthier option than pharmaceuticals.

If you or someone you know are experiencing allergies, feel free to call my office to schedule your allergy evaluation and end allergy season for good!

Healthfully yours,

Dr. Lou Granirer
