Greetings!
November 1, 2010
Thank you for your interest in my health and wellness newsletter. In case you didn't know, I recently opened my new website. I am very proud of it, and I hope you take a few minutes to visit the Holistic Chiropractic Center of NYC. I sincerely believe you will find it to be a significant improvement. I wanted to create a resource of information pertaining to your health and wellness, not just another chiropractic website. I will be adding new, personal content, on a regular basis. It is my goal to have this site become the "WebMD" of chiropractic and holistic care. Please be sure to bookmark the new site for your records because I will closing the old site shortly.

Fall is the Best Season for Your Holistic Physical

The Importance of Maintaining Your Immune System Most of us will go see a doctor when we are sick with something like the flu, which is a reactionary action based on a serious health situation. Ironically, we will use our Health Insurance Plan to pay for the doctor visit. Health insurance is an example of a preventative action we plan for, should we become ill. How often do we go to our doctor when we are not feeling sick?
The immune system is the body's defense against infectious organisms and other invaders. Through a series of steps called the immune response, the immune system attacks organisms and substances that invade body systems and cause disease. The B-lymphocyte cells of the immune system produce antibodies called immunoglobulins. These antibodies are designed to react against specific antigens introduced into the system by microorganisms of various types.
As we age, we normally experience a decline in the function of the immune system, which increases susceptibility to infections and can decrease the quality of life. A healthy immune system is achieved by restoring balance to the body as a whole. Every person's immune system is different and their needs are individually based.
One patient may need more B vitamins to enhance their individual immune response. Another patient may need vitamin D or vitamin C to enhance the immune response. Sometimes I discover that there may be underlying toxicity that doesn't allow the immune system to function optimally.
The holistic physical is a great way to identify hidden imbalances which tax the immune system. Such as parasites, candida, to high levels of heavy metals, and it also helps with balancing symptoms such as fatigue and digestive problems. The holistic physical is an effective way to keep you healthy during the flu season.
If I feel you need to increase the amount of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, or herbs that you're not getting from your food, I have nutritional supplements that are made from whole foods. They are so different from the processed, chemically derived supplements that you find in most vitamin shops.
Since, they are food based, the body will absorb them much more efficiently. Typically, a patient will bring in bags of supplements to test. For the average patient, I find more than half of the pills they are taking to be not only unnecessary but actually harmful in terms of supporting the body's normal regulation processes.
Another great way to help the body's immune system is through a chiropractic treatment. Pero a researcher at NYU, discovered that chiropractic patients have a 200 percent increased immune response than those not receiving chiropractic care. Since, the nervous system governs the immune system, the treatment engages the nervous system, which in turn enhances the immune response.
The secret to living a healthy lifestyle is by focusing more energy and effort into preventing us from becoming sick, and your immune system has a lot to do with that. Fall, right before flu season, is traditionally the best time to for a holistic physical and chiropractic treatment.
Healthfully yours,
Dr. Louis Granirer Holistic Chiropractic Center
