RA Grape Seed Serum

Chandra's Choice

Rhonda Allison Grape Seed Hydrating Serum

This concentrate of pure grape seed extract and essential oils, including clove and cinnamon, gives this powerful antioxidant blend a natural aroma, which is perfect for this holiday season. As well as a pleasant scent, this serum feels light and airy to the skin.

I enjoy using this product in the treatment room during facial massage for added benefits or mixed with other RA products for a customized cocktail of nutrients before applying sun protection. Combined with the Grape Seed Parfait Mask it makes for a facial that is abundant with nutrients for overall skin health.

Grape Seed Hydrating Serum may be added to a home care regimen for added moisture and antioxidant support. It works well on all skin types, but especially skin that is dehydrated or skin that has had a bit too much sun exposure (a perfect day on the slopes, perhaps). Apply to skin as needed, a few drops added to other RA moisturizers or even into your home care mask is just another way to give your skin a boost.

Nu Face and Botox by Heather Keeble aesthetician

In the 1980's, doctors used injectables to relax muscles that crossed the eyes and quiet uncontrollable blinking. "If a muscle is immobilized, even temporarily , it will use less energy and atrophy," says skin physiologist Peter Pugliese, MD.  Researchers soon figured out how to make this atrophy yield short-term aesthetic effects.

It is believed by doctors that overtime use of injectables could cause the face to lose desired fulness. It is because of this fact that many doctors are encouraging, in home or at the spa, electric current facials to keep the muscles plump and active. The Nu Face is a micro current hand held instrument that stimulates the ATP, fuel for the cell. The Micro-current Nu Face is beneficial by itself to tighten and tone the skin or in combo with Botox for longer results. "Botox and electric facials are great companions. I could spend hours smoothing lines out then my clients will walk out the door and make the expression that caused the wrinkle 1,000 times that night,"says facialist Melanie Simon. "Botox is very efficient at knocking out expression wrinkles. Electric current fixes everything else - it's the cherry on top."

Doctors are also finding that the use of an electric current can prolong the results of Botox. Using a hand held or going to get a micro current facial two weeks after an injection helps keep the muscles tight. " On a muscular level, the micro current acts like a personal trainer to tone and shorten muscle fibers" says Dr.Pugliese.

With the coming of the holidays the much desired smooth, plump, toned skin can be achieved with the Nu Face and Botox.

MassageNovember 2011

By Chandra Collister

I want to share some basic information about receiving a massage that will enhance your experience and allow you to enjoy a feeling of wholeness when you leave the treatment room.

It is not critical to be fully nude while receiving your massage, however, even a minimal amount of clothing may get in the way and important muscle groups may be left unmassaged. But, if removing all of your clothing makes you uncomfortable, then only undress to your comfort level, whatever that may be. It is best to remove all jewelry and anything in your hair.

Follow the therapist's instructions on how to place yourself on the bed and settle in. Begin to relax. Begin to let go. Close your eyes. Direct your attention to your breath. Become aware of your entire body. Do not force the breath. Allow your thoughts to drift out of your mind as easily as they drift in.

It is your job during this session to be taken care of. Allow yourself this luxury. When it is time for a body part to be lifted, let your therapist do the work for you. Stay as limp as you can manage.

At first contact, direct your attention to your therapist's touch. Stay in touch with your breath. Visualize your healing breath flowing to the body part that is being worked on.

Words can distract. But please feel free to speak up if the massage is physically painful, if you are cold or uncomfortable in any way.

It is unnecessary to get up right away. Be still with your eyes closed. Absorb what you are feeling for a few more moments longer.

Enjoy lots of refreshing water during the course of the day.

Breathe, Smile and Feel Great!

 Get To Know Your HAMSTRINGS

Chandra Collister

November/December 2011

The hamstrings are a group of three muscles: Biceps Femoris, Semitendinosus and Semimembranosus. They are located at the posterior (back) of the thigh. As a group they are strong hip extensors and knee flexors. All three have a common origin at the ischial tuberosity (sit bones). The bellies of the three hamstrings extend down the thigh and become long, thin tendons that stretch across the posterior knee. Palpate the back of your thigh and see if you can differentiate the three hamstrings. Visualize how these muscles cause flexion, extension and rotation. Imagine the other muscles that your body uses for these actions. Google them. Get to know them.

A silly bit of knowledge: The term "hamstring" originated in 18th century England. In those days, butchers displayed pig carcasses in shop windows by hanging them from the long tendons at the back of the knee.
