Greetings!

The Corona Children's Chorus Camp will start soon.  From august 9th to the 20th, around 300 children from Corona and beyond will get together to learn and sing songs from all over the World, led by Sanna Valvanne.

During the past month, student recruitment has been intense.   But also the CYMP has been establishing strong community links, especially with the Queens Museum of Art and ELMCOR-Youth and Adult Activities.  We had a chance to present the project at the Queens Community Board #4 meeting, thanks to the kind invitation of Ms. Helen Arteaga from Plaza del Sol Health Center, and Mr. Richard Italiano, District Manager.

Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks.  Please get in touch with us, and support this project, through our website, by visiting our Facebook page, or following us on Twitter.

The CYMP is part of this fast growing international movement. It is the result of my work at the Abreu Fellows Program, the first initiative of El Sistema USA -and created in partnership between the New England Conservatory and the TED organization.

Corona Youth Music Project Partnerships

bannerWe are proud to announce our new partnerships with the Queens Museum of Art and ELMCOR-Youth and Adult Activities.

The Queens Museum of Art has been instrumental in establishing links with other community organizations and community leaders in Corona and beyond.  Besides from being one of the major cultural institutions in New York City, their outreach programs in Corona have had a great positive impact in the community, through programs like "The Heart of Corona" and the Queens Arts Express.  Thanks to Prerana Reddy, QMA Director of Public Events; Alexandra García, QMA Community Organizer; and Gabriel Roldos, QMA Immigrant Outreach Fellow .

ELMCOR-Youth and Adult Activities will be the headquarters of the Corona Children's Chorus Camp, at its Louie Armstrong Recreation Center.  Just one block away from the Jazz trumpet legend's house, ELMCOR is one of the oldest community organizations in Corona, that has served several generations of youth and adult New Yorkers. Thanks to Virginia Williams, Executive Director or ELMCOR.

Our deepest gratitude to the Queens Museum of Art and ELMCOR for the trust put in the Corona Youth Music Project.  We look forward to many new projects together for the good of the Corona youth!

Corona Children's Chorus Camp Recruitment

bannerDuring the last month, student recruitment for the Corona Children's Chorus Camp was intensive.  We'd like to thank Principals, Music teachers, Parent Coordinators and parents in Corona, specially those at PS16Q, PS19Q, PS92Q, PS14Q and IS61Q.

We'd like to thank the Queens Museum of Art, which invited the CYMP to participate in the block party organized in partnership with the Louie Armstrong House Museum, entitles "My Block, My Home", in which many families came to gather information about the Corona Children's Chorus Camp.

If you want to receive information for a child to be part of this tuition-free camp (August 9th-21st), please enter your information here.
