Business Planning drives success for vending operations! by Joe Nichols

Business planning drives success for vending operations

Before you undertake any venture, it is wise to do initial planning. How are you going to run your business?  Write a business plan. Think through all of the potential problems with running the business. Understand that you are fully responsible for the outcome of the business.

Remember the rule of cause and effect: If I do this, then what happens? And what does that cause? And what does that cause? Think at least 4 or 5 steps into the future, keeping a long-term perspective on you business.

Attainable, measurable goals are key

Develop business goals that are long-term, clearly defined and measurable. Divide your business into its components and create short term goals for each section. Be methodical. The time you invest in planning is far less expensive than the cost of engaging in a failed business.

Know your customers - and your prospects

Invest time in developing a marketing plan. Marketing is the entire process of selling product, from demographic research (who will buy), what they will buy (product selection), where they will buy (commercial location, street corner, school), to how they will they buy (cash, credit, check), and why they will buy (price, selection, color). A sale is the process of taking money and delivering product; marketing determines what you will sell.

In the vending machine business, management has to make these critical decisions. What will you sell, what kind of machines will you use, where do you set pricing, where will you sell? Our market is broken into two groups, each having different concerns. We have the account market - focusing on where to place machines - and the end user market, determining who will spend money and what will they buy. This article will discuss the account market, and the account sales process.

Plan for the unforeseeable

As much as we enjoy planning out sales, it's also important to consider the impact that problems, issues and catastrophes could have on the business, things like:

·        Equipment destruction

·        Pricing decisions

·        Placement fees and bad placements

Like any business, vending machine operations can be enjoyable and profitable - provided you do your homework ahead of time.

How I save money and Make Extra Income

Making Extra Income
by Max Young at www.PKvending.com

Dear Fellow Operators,
"Overnight success takes 15 years" says Donald Gordon founder of Liberty Life.Is my favourite quote, so let's get started.

In recent months I have been on a major cost cutting exercise while boasting my income. As I do not believe the recession is fully over and we live in such volatile economic times, I do not believe the worst is over. Here are some of the things I have done.
I have paid off my car its 6 years old and I had to ask myself do I really need a new one or is my ego and vanity getting the better of me. No more car instalment for me. I once asked my father what's the best car to drive and his answer was " one that is fully paid for" his words are ringing in my ears

My cell phone contract is no more I have moved to a pay as you go guess what it's cheaper and I am not tied down to a monthly contract.

My car insurance has been reviewed and my instalments have been reduced by 20% due to the value of my car reducing every year.

My car is now serviced by a private mechanic who I can highly recommend.  To say that I have saved a small fortune in servicing costs when compared to the dealer is putting it mildly. And yes I do drive a luxury German model, fruits of my private vending machine business.

Ordering your groceries online I know it sounds crazy but the best way to compare prices size of package and price per kilogram is by shopping online and having it delivered.  Both Woolworths and Pick and Pay offer this facility. Woolies even deliver for free.  Also how often are in the grocery store and you thinking do I have x in my cupboard you buy it anyway and when you get home you find you five of x in your cupboard. With online you this does not happen just walk over and check your cupboard. Also you save on fuel.

I have also been taking advantage of all the specials on vending machines that have been on offer purchasing two more machines and boasting my net income by an extra R 5000.00 per month. My new mantra I only purchase or invest in that which will brings me an additional income until the end of the year anyway.

So I am feeling a little cash flush with my savings on car instalments, cell phone accounts etc and my ever growing fleet of cash producing vending machines my year end holiday plans are looking pretty good.

My advise ignore the noise made by the Malema's of the world, set yourself some goals make some sacrifices and start achieving and most important teach your children the same values.

Regards, Max Young
Part Time Vending Machine Operator
PS - my part time vending business is doing very well and I am slowly acquiring all the things I have wanted in life the old fashion way; with sacrifice and hard work all the while keeping my morals.
