| Q. What shall I pay in commissions? |
A. $$$ Some locations will want commissions from their machines. Commissions are a percentage of sales that you give to higher volume locations - usually between 5-20% of gross sales. Personally, I would not pay a commission to any location with fewer than 40 employees. Set up a commission that you can live with or raise the prices of the items in the machine to cover your costs. If the account does not bring in the amount of money that you feel satisfied with, move the machines to a new account. Every account has to pay for itself. Having friends in an account that's not making money isn't a good business reason for keeping the account there; your friends don't help you pay the bills. The key to a successful vending business is working hard, and providing prompt, courteous customer service. If you don't mind working, a lot of people make a fine living in this business. It's up to you to find the motivation to seek out locations for your machines, to follow-up with your customers and restock machines regularly, and to respond professionally when problems arise. Biodegradable Food Service announces the new EarthFiber Lid for its Earth Cups
Sunriver, OR: Biodegradable Food Service (BDFS) introduced today a new line of hot cup lid for its Earth Cups.
The new EarthFiber Lid is 100% compostable in properly maintained facilities (per ASTM 6400D requirements), where available. The lid is GMO- and petroleum-free, and pairs with the Earth Cup to provide a 100% compostable coffee cup combo.
It fits BDFS's premium double-board single-wall Kraft Earth Cup in the 10, 12, 16, and 20-ounce sizes and the 12 and 16 ounce size of the Insulated double-wall Earth Cup. Furthermore, it's suitable for either hot or cold beverages.
The most distinctive characteristic of the new lid is the combination of annually renewable bamboo and other natural fibers that are used as an ingredient. These visible fibers give the lid an extremely unique and "organic" appearance, and together with the binding ingredients provide a thicker lid that offers superior strength and performance.
The exterior surface of the lid is smooth and somewhat polished, a result of the component materials and the manufacturing process particular to the lid. Its underside has a more tactile surface, showing a tight herringbone pattern, which augments its overall "hand-made" appeal.
Kevin Duffy, President of BDFS, points to the lid as another product of ongoing R&D efforts. "We never rest," says Duffy, "because we want to maintain our company position as trend-setters on the leading edge of developing technology and materials development."
