Organizing the Garage
Standing in your filled garage with all kinds of stuff can be overwhelming. I suggest you start with small steps to begin the process.
Eliminate all trash and items that you can quickly purge. Don't linger too long on any one item trying to decide - this is just your first pass at getting rid of things you don't want or need.
Sort into like categories. Place all like items together in one area to see what you have and how many. You may decide that 3 push brooms is overkill and toss one or two out. You will also see how much of one category you have which will help you in placing those things in one section of your garage.
Use clear containers with lids. Put small items of one category into a clear container with a lid. You can containerize lots of things like tools, holiday items, sports equipment, etc. Remember to label the containers for easy retrieval.
Put all miscellaneous things together. Place miscellaneous items into one container and label with the list of what is inside. Keeping loose things inside containers stacked on shelves will allow your garage to have a whole new look.
Create a garage system. If your budget does not allow for a new garage organizing system, then create your own. Use an old trash can to place rakes, brooms, etc Safely stack same size containers of one category together. Use baskets for sports equipment like balls and knee pads.
If you follow these simple steps, you will begin to see a transformation take place in your garage. You will be able to locate items faster and easier. Your garage will be safer and more accessible to get in and out of your vehicle. |
