Managing your Home Office Clutter
The easiest way to manage your home office space is to rid the clutter. Free the area of all items that do not belong there. This will create a home office space that will enable you to work without the distractions of other things on your desktop, around your home office space, or in the same room.
Paper is the biggest problem most of us have. Decide what is worth keeping and toss the rest. Invest in a file cabinet or portable storage container that can hold file folders and papers that you will keep. Label the file folders and arrange them alphabetically This simple file system will make filing easy and stress free.
Try to manage each piece of paper once. Identify what action you need to make with each piece of paper you keep. Do you need to call someone, fill out a form, write a letter, or just file for future reference? I like to write in pencil on the top right corner what my action is to eliminate the need to make another decision when I am ready to act on my To Do's. Learning to make decisions once will save you time.
Keep your action items near by. You can use a step file organizer for easy viewing and access. Tackle these tasks daily. If time is limited, address a part of an action or complete a simple task like addressing a birthday card to a dear friend. Staying on top of the actions will help to manage your paper.
Keep your desktop as clean as possible. It is easier to work on a surface that is free of unwanted items or piles of papers. Having an organized desktop will free your mind to focus on the work you need to accomplish. Your home office will have a new positive energy.
