Topeka - Representative Joe Patton (R-Topeka) announced today he is running for reelection for the Kansas House of Representatives' 54th District.
"It has been my privilege to serve the 54th District," Rep. Patton said. "It is my hope the district voters will once again give me the honor of representing them so together we can continue to improve our communities and state. It's an honor to serve."
Since joining the Legislature in 2007, Rep. Patton worked on a number of issues important to the 54th District including property tax relief, balancing the budget, limiting increased spending and strengthening state laws so those convicted of crimes pay for their deeds and spend time in prison.
"When I ran for re-election I promised the voters that I would vote against a tax increase and I did what I said I would do," Patton said. "I strongly believe government must learn to live within its means. The "tax and spend" coalition is still killing jobs in our state. In the regional area, Kansas is dead last in economic performance - dead last. If this was football we would be demanding a new coach."
The Topeka representative serves as Vice Chair of the House Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee, on the House Judiciary as well as the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and Regulations, Joint Committee on Special Claims against the State, and Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight.
Majority Leader of the House Ray Merrick highlighted the importance of Rep. Patton's leadership and experience in the legislature.
"Joe is an invaluable member of the House of Representatives. He worked tirelessly to hold the line on taxes and spending," said Merrick. "His constituents in the 54th district are very fortunate to have an advocate like Joe. His leadership and sense of duty have earned him respect on both sides of the aisle."
The Majority Leader also commended Patton for his perfect voting and attendance record during the 2009 and 2010 legislative sessions. In all, he made a total of 709 recorded votes during the two sessions.
The 54th District includes south-central Topeka and Shawnee County, including Auburn.
Paid for by Joe Patton for Representative Committee, Shelly Starr Treasurer.
